I currently own and use Voxengo Elephant as a mastering limiter in my projects and I absolutely love it. It seems to take a lot of effort to get it to distort, even when pushing the audio at ridiculous levels (and yes, which you wouldn't aim to do realistically anyway...).
Being a previous Crysonic customer (Spectralive), I've seen the new 65% discount for Spectra'Phy, so I've downloaded the demo and had a play around and done some A/B'ing between them at similar settings. I do like the sound Spectra'Phy produces, and, like Elephant, it can take some serious flack before noticeable distortion.
There are a couple of things I don't quite get though.
1. The Analogue/Digital knob. I've tried using Spectra'phy on a variety of different material, but I can't seem to notice any perceivable difference between 0% and 100%. Perhaps a slightler higher range of frequencies at fully Digital, but that might be placebo. Does anyone use this setting particularly?
2. The Drive/Color setting. Likewise, I don't percieve much difference with this. Except a slight clipping distortion when set to full (resolved by raising the threshold to the point where any difference seems to be lost).
I've probably answered my own question here, but wondered if there were any Elephant and Spectra'phy users that clearly noticed a useful difference between the two and utilise both for different things.
