What are your favs so far ?

Played with the Synths last night, haven't touched the FX yet. Faves so far:

Cubix! The sound reminds me of the Limelite plug that Native Instruments gave away awhile back. Simpler, but freeware and also a VST plugin.

TripleCheese. Best sounding of the synths, and most versitile that I heard. But then what else do you expect from Urs?

Ritual. Really great pure sound.

Matryx is potentially the champ, but I will have to dig into the Help file to see how to Load any VST I want to. Also, when I scanned for plugs my system seized up and I had to reboot. Lunchbox and Collide and Play are not making any sounds. I can't find Audio Prefernces for either. I was looking foreward to testing MiniVyn(really liked Retrosyn), But the Stuffit extractor gave me a dialog box saying the file was corrupt, and then no synth was extracted, only some text files.

I'll play with the FX later in eXT. Really have high hopes for the Video plug. That's a brilliant idea and really useful to me since my version on Sonar is only #3.

Heheh, I'm kinda tickled someone actually remembered the RetroSyn. I was having a problem similar to yours for the downloads, I believe, but I thought it was because of my absolutely primitive dial-up connection, where it wouldn't completely download the file. I'd say to try downloading it again.


And to the rest of the board, TweakBench my apologies for being so rude last night, and Tuz my apologies for being that way on your forum. I think last night was just a bad night all the way around.


But on the topic of installers, it really shouldn't be a problem if it doesn't make a registry entry of some sort. Basically it's the same thing as copying and pasting if that's the case, it's just that with the installer it's all automated to in fact make things easier for the end user.

Like Sasha this preliminary. A few I haven't opened yet; a few that on first impression have left me scratching my admittedly thick head. And at least one (MASB Compressor) has been rejected by Sonar 6 which is the only host I've tried them in. And I want to really understand and use them all before voting.

But here's what I'm thinking:

Anna: Honestly, I didn't expect to be impressed by this, but, uh, wow. It sounds incredibly nice, and the GUI is really elegant. This is great right out of the box.

Pushtec 5A+1: Very nice, very useful. Great on drum-loops.

Balthor Grand: Like someone else pointed out, great sound, but a piano that plays only at max velocity is a little limited.

Tripple Cheese: Of course, a really, really great piece of code. Easy to get to grips with and just fantastic sound.

Zombie Fungus FX: Odd and unnerving. Staring at that mug gets me a little flustered. But FSU - yes it does.

Cubix: Great design, nice sound.

Sweet Girl EQ78: While the sound seems nice, the GUI is headache inducing. Looks like a badly pimped MySpace page.

Drum Mic Positioner: Could be useful.

Choralozoide: Hmmm. I need to play with this more, but my immediate results are too subtle to judge.

Rezon8: Again, my immediate results are too subtle to really see how to use this.

Lunchbox Battles: Indeed, very fun. I just wish I could control the delay amount.

Grizzly: Cool, and goods sounds. But I'm finding the interface a little unweildy.

That's pretty much what I've been able to use so far, I'll keep trying the ones that crash or crap out.

Keep in mind, also, I haven't read all the readme files and manuals. So I plan to get deeper into this today. But I have a project going that uses nothing but loops and the plugins from this challenge. When I get around to voting I'll be sure and post it.

can't dll write in the registry ?
Installer is not the same thing as copying and pasting--> typical : i want the VST to go in ../vst/thesynth/, and some installer create a folder, other don't, ending with ../vst/thesynth/thesynth/ or ../vst/thesynth.dll. and the uninstalling process sometimes trash some .dll needed by other applications, and your system is f**ked up. for example just install this piece of crap : http://www.kvraudio.com/get/812.html, you won't be dissapointed by the uninstalling...

For stuffit archive you'll need ExtractNow
plus download SIT dll and save it to your ExtractNow directory.

Because the so called free version can only be installed if you download and install the whole demo which I hate - you can't just install the freebie.
