Meatwalker andmoonlite.......you really need EnergyXT. :) Go on splash out about £40 then you will be able to do what you want plus a whole lot more. I cant imagine, from what you have posted, that in the future you will not want to experiment more with your music and EnergyXT will give you so many options. OK you will perhaps have to take a week out from making music to fully grasp the power of EnergyXT but it will be worth it in the long run.

The following is from a post that I have posted here before at KVR which might help you realise the potential of EnergyXT and how it can help you:-

The amount of times I read in forums users saying "I wish the developer would implement this or that feature" when, if they had EnergyXT, they could do it anyway. For example - arpeggiators, midi gates, triggerable note/controller sequencer, midi control for almost any parameter of any VST instrument or effect, set one midi controller to control more than one VST plugins parameter with just one midi controller - you could set controller 1 to control the cutoff frequency, resonance, reverb level, and amplifier release time of one VSTi and also the delay feedback amount and filter on a VST effect at the same time with a different range set for each parameter. You can choose which midi channels to set your plugins to, use the same midi channels for various plugins, set the keyboard range for your midi plugins and transpose the plugins quickly and easily with just a couple of devices. Use loads of freeware midi plugins to control your VST plugins - want to control the filter/reverb level/delay time etc. etc. with a midi syncable LFO/envelopes/velocity/aftertouch or by the audio output of another (or even the same) VST plugin? Want to send the audio outs from various plugins to other plugins quickly and easily - perhaps even send the signal to more than one other plugin? No limit to the amount of insert effects/instruments you can use. Quick and easy to set up gating/triggering so you can, for instance, use a bass drum to gate a synth, sidechain a compressor etc. It's cheap and it's stable. Version 2 is out soon with, as far as I am aware, a free upgrade to current users - new features are bound to be added.

It took me a while to realise the benefits of EnergyXT but the interface is simple and easy to use. If you need any help then I can honestly say the KVR EnergyXT forum is the most helpful forum I have come across. Get EnergyXT, use it as a VST instrument and effect to host your plugins, learn how to setup EnergyXT as a VSTi with multiple audio outs into your host's VST mixer channels so you can then host VST instruments/effects/midi plugins inside it(sounds complicated but is easy to do with a bit of explanation from EnergyXT users), download the many freeware midi plugins, play with for a bit - ask as many questions as you need to (you will need to ask questions as there is so much EnergyXT can do). Then perhaps learn how to use the main EnergyXT sequencer and ditch your host altogether (something which I am doing now and wish I had done ages ago!). EnergyXT is by far and away the best purchase I have ever made for doing my music - if it cost £200.00 I would still recommend it if you like to experiment with your music.

Another example:-

Load eXT into your sequencer.
Load z3ta+ into eXT - you will now have the option to control over 500 z3ta+ parameters with eXT's cc mapping facility. You could increase chorus feedback and the reverb wet/dry mix whilst increasing the cutoff frequency and reducing lower bands on the EQ all within their own controller min/max range (or inverse the range so 0=127 and 1=127) on the same midi controller number. Perhaps sync the reverb wet/dry mix with your music by using a freely available midi VST plugin that will generate lfo midi data (search for cclfov2). Or increase the reverb with velocity (Vel2CC) Don't forget you can easily connect to the z3ta's external inputs with eXT by using it's virtual cables. Create whole new patches using VSTi's linked to the same midi channels - you can easily create keyboard splits, arpeggios, midi phrases, do midi patching. Loads of free midi VST plugins are out there. I got a free one (search for "Soma" and "Enveloper") which could convert audio inputs into midi data. Load Enveloper into eXT. Put the audio out from z3ta+ into Enveloper and use the midi data to control the delay level of a VST effect, for example. The options are almost limitless - I can't live without it!!! Did I mention the mixers, sampler, sequencer and the fantastic VSTi Energy Pro that you can get for free with eXT - that's worth the asking price alone!! If you need any help just ask at the KVR eXT forum - they are all really helpful.

Oh yes, as mentioned, the XT2 upgrade (due in the near future) is free to EnergyXT license holders.

I had better stop here as I could go on all day about the wonders of EnergyXT!!

energyxt is my main host already, and been for several years, if you haven't noticed, i'm an eager participant of the ext forum here.

as i said: "yeah, i know you can use ext as vst, too. just trying to optimize .. "

no offence to you personally, but i'm starting to understand why people here are getting irritated by overzealous users of the hype of the day ;))

which one don't you understand?

"mapping the speed of the lfo to a knob"

or

"altering the speed of the lfo live"

?-) or is it some part of either? ;))
sounds like you need to
a:make something in synthedit
or reaktor! :D~ .. thougth of that already ..
b:use what ever method mr ozo or such use, probably manually programming such things live.
i think we have much better technology for that nowdays than over 10 years ago =)

or if you ment technique, then yeah, that's exactly what i'm trying to do. that's why i used it as an example =)

it's pretty clear to me that he has lfo:s connected to various parameters of synths and fx, and then he is "playing" these lfo:s during the song via knobs or something.

so, yeah, exactly what i'm trying to do. =)

yeah but you can't play that.
yeah, sorry, i mean .. um .. like, for instance mapping the speed (actually sync ratio, but let's say speed for clarity) of the lfo to one knob on my midi controller and the "depth" of the lfo to an other, and altering, "playing", recording them in real-time during the song..

as i mentioned earlier: " ...i'd want to do some mr oizo-style synced-lfo-playing.

i'd do it in my hosts automation if i'd just want synced sweeps or pretty simple low frequency oscillation, but i want to play and record realtime the playing of the sync ratio like something like in mr oizo - analog worms attack etc .."

Sorry moonlite, didn't recognise the username  I don't think not using ext would amount to optimization though.....

I just get so frustrated when I read about people wanting this and that from developers so that they can then do this and that with their plugins when something so cheap, so stable, so adaptable, so constantly improved with new innovations that are often suggested by users, and so reasonably easy to learn, is quickly and easily available.

back when i was using logic as my main seq (when it was still updated for PC) i had for a while this default setup of ext in every track, so, that when ever i'd load any plugins, i would load them in ext. tried really hard to get used to that, but in the end i just didn't. it just wasn't my cup of tea, even if it had significant advantages. of course i use xt as a plug now and then, when i want to do something that can't be done in some specific host, or is just not practical etc.

now i'm trying to learn to use sonar, so it doesn't help using xt whenever i run into some trouble ;) .. but if i can't get anything else to work, of course i'll use xt.

i just hope i don't end up wanting that lfo plug into too many tracks in some projects ..

I understand 8) . I have just ditched my Cubase VST5 to use EnergyXT exclusively. Got a week off work now so thought it would be a good time to really get down and study it (well look on the KVR forum and get the various manuals printed off using my mate's printer - he's got a big American style fridge that's usually got a "few" cold beers in it - all helps in the learning process :P ). Not really used the sequencer much yet but today was the first time it really seemed to start to gel into place. Keep studying that manual......

okay well even loading energyxt into cubase as an instrument then loading nicfits lfo into energyxt crashes cubase

so basically in order to use a syncing midi lfo i have to abandon my $1000 sequencer altogether for energyxt. that f**king sucks. energyxt looks like a cool program i am just extremely frustrated that i cant just use it as a vst instrument rather than having to switch to a new host altogether just for this extremely simple but important function

damn........

Post

i managed to open nF_CC_MOD_Ldev.dll in sonar .. i just had to open it up as vsti instead of vst effect. haven't had time to try it out properly yet, but i can't see any reason why it wouldn't work ..

well, i think sonar finally got their vst support right, and even overdid it, since now it's even better than what steinberg can do? ;)

Post

OH! one thing i realized was that you can use some midi-fx lfo, too. aiui cubase supports midifx, too?

i bet that'll work.

please come back to me on what you came up with, cause i haven't had much time to delve in to the "midi plug-in scene" ;P

here's something to get you going. looks like an old page, though, but you'll manage? ;)

thanks for the tip, i have been trying to add it in cubase as an instrument btw.

i checked out that site - the only other lfo it mentions that didnt come up in this thread is http://www.midifo.com/ which supports the mfx format. the link is dead and a google search yields zero results.

i will continue to search mfx plugs in the hopes of finding a suitable plug

btw can any cubase sx 3 users confirm that nicfits lfo crashes cubase both as an effect and instrument? maybe its just my setup...

okay i got energyxt and ran into a problem straight away - the sequencer mono outputs dont work. i search on the official forum and it turns out this has been a known bug since 2003 and is still unfixed. fantastic!

this IS an interesting program, but i dont think it is suitable for professional use at this stage, it is too underdeveloped. i think i will have to continue to use cubase and just automate everything i would normally use an lfo for...but it would be great if a

cubase user could PLEASE confirm that neither of Nicfits version of the midi lfo crashes cubase..

thank you very much for the link - works perfectly for meand saves me many hours/headache
