Hmmm... when I first tried out the various entries, I wasn't too worried about having to vote because a lot of the entries seemed to be a bit rubbish or to do something fairly ordinary. But now after a bit of playing around, I've been finding out quite what they're capable of, and choosing a top five is starting to look very hard indeed...

For instance
SANE FM - previously thought it sounded a bit rubbish and cheap, have now decided it sounds awesome and cheap
Drum Mic Positioner - looked like a rather specialist recording tool for the sort of people who wank over £10000 EQs. After a bit of playing around with it on echoey samples and automating the panning and distance controls, it starts to look more like a mental dub machine.
Mini-Vyn - looked like a generic synthedit VA with a dodgy GUI. Turns out to be a rather good synthedit VA with dodgy GUI.
Fire - just seems a lot cooler than I initially thought it was.

I dread to think what's going to happen when I actually get some of the updates that reduce the CPU overloads and random crashes that have stopped me really playing with some of the other stuff, too...

So has anyone else had these sorts of conversions? And who are the people who are so confident that they won't that they've already voted?
It's a rave, Lewis!

----I haven't even had time to evaluate everything once yet, let alone time get nostalgic and go back to try something out again :hihi: Voting shouldn't be until the last week of the month, 3 weeks to test, then a week to finish up and vote. Everyone's gonna have a different top 5 in 2 weeks.

I hear you, DWb.

I've been testing and re-testing to see what I can get out of certain plugins.
Some are not my cup of tea, some are really usefull for me.
Some work on my PC, some don't.

That's all OK.
I think there are some nice plugins for everyone; each person will have their own favorites, the keepers so to speak.

I thank all developers for giving us VST addict some new candy :)

For me the top five so far is:

1. Lunchbox Battles
2. MiniVyn
3. Fire
4. Balthor Grand
5. Drive5

I have also voted but I only voted because we could change our vote, I haven't tried 4 entries so my votes are not solid, and some of the really good sounding ones like Rave crash when I tested the real use factor, like one per track, it crashed on the second track load. And 4 others aren't coming up at all, so I'm still in the voting stage. these are some good additions to the music creation industry, and all deserve my greatest respect.

My first two choices are the pushtec5A+1, and Raven'bass. The other 3 may change. But the processing quality coming thru that pushtec really impressed me. I wish they would make a HP/LP unit that had midi automation with the same build quality.

Hi, which software host are you using please, I only tested Rave 'N' Bass
on logic audio and cubase sx on the pc. I will be testing on other host in the future though. Also did the second sound bank load ok for you ?

Thanks

jobro: Doesn't the lack of velocity in the Balthor piano bother you?

My mind isn't made up just yet - EQ-22 is the only certain choice for me so far. The Psychic Modulation drum sequencer is a lot cooler than I initially thought. Anna didn't impress me immediately (despite the sound, which I think is really solid) because I felt its ground already covered by other synths I've got. After giving it a little longer, I really began to like it. The only down side is the large CPU usage, but I expect this is mainly due to Synthmakers relative infancy.

I wish I understood EQ quality, so I could vote for Pushtec as well :(. And like robenstobenz said... the lack of velocity in the Balthor piano was a turn-off for me.

What I've seen so far, some plugins need a lot more attention (learning curve) than I'm willing to invest right now. And although I'm always willing to purchase a VST based on other people's reviews  for voting, my votes will represent my lazy style of working. (my criterion: usefulness of the plugin for me personally). That means there are still enough candidates left to make choosing difficult.

Cubix and Anna are amongst my favorites so far.. but I really still need to spend time with the different FX...

My vote for 3, 4 and 5 is not solid yet. Balthor's Grand works good as a house piano if you can't find anything better.

There are 1 plugin I haven't got working as of yet (tonespace) but that'll be tested tonight.

Anna is from now on serving as a very good testbed for us when getting the performance to a good level. I will not stop bugging the others in the team until we got it right :)

Heheh, well after many claims of dodginess and wonkiness for my synth's GUI, I can guarantee you (even moreso if it succeeds in this comp) that the interface will get a rework after the comp is done. :)

I would do it sooner, but pretty much too many other things in life are taking precedence now, but I won't forget my fans and I promise there WILL be a new GUI after the comp is over. :D
