No not linux, it is a language specifically to graphics cards, so the code can be ported between different 3D rendering apis

Pretty exciting stuff here. One question: Does this give us the horsepower/bandwith to see realtime convolution reverbs? Or are we still going to have pesky latency?

Don't mix up processing power and latency here. Afaik, latency from a convolution reverb is caused by the algorithm itself, not the processing power. I'm sure the will be some latency, but the CPU usage will be only 1-5%

@ Nils Schneider
i would like to thank you for making your work in this line public to test!!!!!!
many like me have been waiting for this so we can get ready for when its developed fully

Yah Voxengos genius is too tightly harnessed, and its a shame.
things like accessing the gpu and cards like uad-1 and poco etc all ADD power.
my experience with uad-1 has been wonderful, its never gotten in the way of the native side and the award winning plugins are nothing to sneeze at.
likewise here, with gpudelay, you have another way to "divert all power to DAW". i'm glad to see someone move ahead with this instead of writing it off because it wont come out of the gate "perfect".
and i respect putting this out even tho it will only work on certain machines, it breaks the cold cold ice.
i havent had a chance to run it yet, i only have one pc thats gonna qualify i think, radeon 9600XT?

I think the delay sounds good. I don't understand where the idea came from that other GPU plugins won't compare in quality to native VST's.
Isn't great plugin sound a case of progamming good algorithms rather than the choice of hardware it runs on? Native plugins vary in audio quality based on the programming not because we all use different cpu's and mobo's.
I think Nils has created the possibilty of building GPU plugins that can compete with native VST's. I don't think we need to wait for these mythical ATi cards that will process audio.

...and i'm back.
downloaded that d3dx9_29 and sure enough it works.
works even with uad-1 plugins running at the same time! i even routed a uad-1 plugin into gpudelay and that worked too. everything works.
very impressive mr. schneider!!

It also works when using Poco and UAD-1 plugins. I think this plugin is very stable now and there's no difference between using it and native and DSP plugins.Tony Ostinato wrote:...and i'm back.

I'm looking forward to a convo and whatever else is in the pipeline. Any clues about upcoming developments?

any tips on a nice priced card (or range) that will support this gpu dsp stuff?

But there are no problems with this plugin and this isn't 'on the edge' because it is completely useable. We've got a perfectly good GPU delay so I don't think pouring cold water on this development is justifiable. Unlike the rest of us you don't seem to be acknowledging the success that Nils has had with this development.Aleksey Vaneev wrote:Being 'on the edge' is a nice thing, but it does not last for long. The keen feeling fades away while problems remain.
Why not release the GPU plugins you've developed and we can help you test them like we did with Nils GPU delay?

i wonder if aleskey couldnt have come up with a dozen or more reasons why airplanes can't fly.
then someone flies by laughing, well not laughing hes being very civil about it. i'd be laughing.
its cool tho, even if native plugins are all he can do they are still good.

Any video card that supports Direct X9 (most modern cards do - even the cheap ones.) You can get a cheap ATi or NVidia card (e.g. Sparkle GF 6200TC 256MB.)djsubject wrote:any tips on a nice priced card (or range) that will support this gpu dsp stuff?

As I understand it, even the latest cheap video cards have more than enough power to run these plugins.

Shader Model 3 is required to be able to run the new plugins, so NO Geforce 5xxx or something, Shader Model 2 is NOT enough

Isn't Radeon 9500 only SM2.0? How are people having success with that then? IIRC, ATI didn't have any SM3.0 cards until the X1k series.Nils Schneider wrote:Shader Model 3 is required to be able to run the new plugins, so NO Geforce 5xxx or something, Shader Model 2 is NOT enough
Radeon 9000-9250, on the other hand, don't even support SM2.0.
