The cheap effects are also working with SM2.0, because of this, they are running. But more complicated effects can't be programmed on SM2.0 because the instruction limit and the lack of other features like dynamic branching etc....

So you asked what could come up next. So you might want to check out this one here too
http://www.nilsschneider.de/temp/GPUChorus.exe
It's a 6 (!) voice stereo chorus
Parameters:
- Depth
- Mix (0% = dry, 100% = wet)
- Speed
- Gain
- Spread (0% = mono chorus, all 6 voices in the center, 100% = 3 voices left, 3 voices right)
Using shader model 2.x (as 2.0 but with higher instruction limit), it might not run on all graphics cards. Have fun trying

Hi,
Did a quick test,. works fine
Question : is there a way to have higher blocksizes ?
because i normally work at higher sizes due to my 'slow' CPU hehe.
Cya,
Rob.

Not yet, but I already got a solution in my mind
So that should be a problem of the past. Maybe tomorrow, but no promises

That's why you'd be better off releasing your GPU experiments now, as opposed to waiting for any other steps in GPU audio development to be taken. Also, it would be absolutely fair of you to spec models of video cards your plug-ins are designed to work on so that you're not held responsible for incompatibilities; I think many people would happily change their video cards to your spec if you release a convolution plug-in to run on it.Aleksey Vaneev wrote:Being 'on the edge' is a nice thing, but it does not last for long. The keen feeling fades away while problems remain.

Oh dear! I just tried the two latest versions of the delay and they now don't work on my system.
The version 2 of the delay (could you impliment version numbers in future so we can identify each version?) creates this exception:
Error #:8
Function: FileSystemArchive::changeDirectory
Description: Cannot open requested directory data.
File: \sgpu\source\ogre\Ogremain\src\OgreFileSystem.ccp
Line:141
Stack unwinding: <<begining of stack>>
Version 3 of the delay loads but on play back it crashes ACID 6. I'll just have to go back to version 1 which works fine on my system.
I tried the chorus and it loads ok but there is a glitch on playback and then no sound - the track meter shows an overload of audio.
I've just found out that when I uninstall each version the .dll is left in the VST folder (I'm not using the default Steinberg VST folder.)

I can confirm that only the first version of the delay is working.
All the others cause an exception error, pointing to msvcp71.dll
edit: I un-installed for a while and after that all delay versions are working but the Corus is still the same..
10 instances in Chainer produce 1.5% on the CPU meter within Chainer but the task monitor jumps between 4-18%...

Please re-read my comments. You probably do not have a clue what kind of words I have written. I was giving solutions to problems - not putting down this effort. Anyway, I have my own expectations and attitude - this is right, I do NOT like outboard processing - be it UAD, Powercore or GPU processing. Beside that quad core processors are already available. I just do not know what to fight for here.Tony Ostinato wrote:i wonder if aleskey couldnt have come up with a dozen or more reasons why airplanes can't fly.

There is no reason for me to release my GPU plug-in, because it does not work stable enough, and because I have frozen its further development. If Nils plug-in is working fine and without any problems, this is great. But my vision is probably a bit more conservative, because I won't think this is success until it works on 99% of computer systems. I mean, I do not have any interest in commercial solution that readily works on 30% of current computer systems only: because, frankly saying, this will be one big problem.munchkin wrote:Unlike the rest of us you don't seem to be acknowledging the success that Nils has had with this development.![]()
Why not release the GPU plugins you've developed and we can help you test them like we did with Nils GPU delay?

Yeah, I think with the growth rate in CPU speed it's probably too much trouble anyway having to keep up with all the changes on the gfx hardware side...
So I guess this brings us back to saying "get a faster machine" if you want more power

Or because you're lying and you haven't actually managed to do it.Aleksey Vaneev wrote: There is no reason for me to release my GPU plug-in, because it does not work stable enough, and because I have frozen its further development.
