Why don't you rewire Live into Tracktion? Best of both worlds!

I feel like im the only one who cringes at the thought of having to use 2 hosts together....
check my profile for contact info.
msn messenger is my email as well.

It's common now though. You know how many people use EXT or FL inside other hosts. And since they are VSTs, they work better then rewire does.

It's not as bad as it seems. It's actually easier then it seems, IMO.

Absolutely, but do you think it will be possible to timestretch ordinary audio clips Rob? Or convert them to a supported format from within T3? Otherwise it just works for the supplied loops and purchased third-party stuff, right?
im no coder but id have thought any DECENT timestretch algorhythm that has been licensed (have mackie had time to write their own from scratch ??? ) would be able to stretch 'normal' .wav files too ???

(arent apple / acid / rex just .wav with different headers and ready-identified transient points ??? )

Well I think REX can only be done using ReCycle. But ACID can be done within the license, as it is in Sonar. I have no idea about Apple Loops (or interest). If T3 can convert loops into ACID (as Sonar does) that would be just great :D

No offense headquest, but having Sonar-like expectations for everything is a bit unreasonable, don't you think?

Yes, we know that Sonar does this and Sonar does that. It's a great program, and surely the program I would choose if Tracktion and EXT didn't exist. But I personally think that T won't make you happy like Sonar does. It is NOT going to have all the features of Sonar, and nowhere close for that matter.

I know you are just hoping that these things are included. But let's be honest, it's going to take ALOT for Tracktion to get all the features that you need that Sonar already has, or Live. There will be plenty of additions to Tracktion, but I just don't see it ever making you happy again.

I could be wrong. And please don't take this like an attack. I just don't see it happening. Sonar and Live make you too happy, and will likely continue to do so for you. And there is nothing wrong with that.

I only say this because everything you ask for you put "just like Sonar" or something like that along with it.

Please take this in the right spirit. It's meant in a positive way.

what a tease..

:) so now that the video is out is it possible for screenies?

Actually, Apple Loops are more interesting than ACID... they contain loop equivalents of ID3 tags which makes sorting them much more efficient than plain ol' ACID. But, since most of my loops are ACID, obviously I'd rather see full support for that format.

That still doesn't address Rob's point, though. Yes, Sonar creates ACID loops... by identifying the right transients and embedding metadata for where those points are. But that doesn't give them automatic stretch, it just embeds data. You'd still have to have a host that does its own timestretch in order for those points to be used effectively. I can't imagine they'd say that it has ACID/Rex/AL support without the code that can actually make use of those node points.

I must admit that if these are the headline features it kinda looks as if they are specifically going to target the newbie market rather than taking on the bigger hosts.

I wonder whether it will even be possible to internally convert audio loops into one of the three supported formats, or whether this new feature is specifically geared towards just the supplied loop content and third party purchases...?
if the bugs are gone, i'm there. i don't care who the target is.

this is a major pay version, and we were told that the next big version of tracktion would kill the existing bugs, so..

not impressed with the loop stuff. i've got other programs that can do the same thing. i'm really paranoid what they are going to do with tracktion3. i hope they don't ruin it by adding all this bloated crap into it. i mean a loop explorer is nice, very needed, but they need to take it further - more than just sample loops, there needs to be internal preset organization, meta data for racks and patches, midi clips, audio recordings, a universal 'browser' more akin to abletons (in v6) or flstudios...

big woop i can browse wave files and set favorites using modulrs juce plug.

I don't know about HQ, but personally i'd love to see features present in other sequencers in Tracktion - partly to see how they would implement it, because i'm pretty sure that (if the new coders are staying true to the original RMS vision) they would implement these features in a very easy to use way.
did that make sense? feeling a bit rough today.
For me there were things missing in Tracktion - yet I still love the paradigm basically.

Well, the browser section serves multiple services. See the drop down list?

Also, pertaining to bloated-ness of the app, I would feel confident that it won't happen. Remember what I said. Look CLOSER at the video. I wish it was a higher quality, so things were more obvious. But hey, it's not even Mackie making the video.

WHat happens next remains to be seen I think. I hope that Koolkeys is right, and that Laz is wrong (about these being the most significant new features).
tracktions PRIMARY strength is it's design. every host can record, every host can playback, it is the WAY in which tracktion works and how elegantly things are done that is the only differentiator to the competition.

looking at ableton live 6, the browser is a pain in the ass. i hated it. it took me tons of time to just find my plugin, then the tabbed approach with everything in one monolithic browser containing everything means that the scrollbar is almost ALWAYS at the wrong place in one tab than it is in another tab. granted i have 500+ vst(i)'s but even still, this is such a managable thing in tracktion. bam pop-up list, bam select what i want, popup, it's much faster than the 'scrollbar' way.. the ableton browser is a steaming pile of lost productivity in terms of speed.

this is what i mean about tracktion. drag/drop of plugins to and from racks, dragging inputs, all fast operations, no screwing around. etc.

anyway i'm off topic now but, basically i'm very nervous that they are going to f'n ruin the elegance and zen minimalism of T by not realizing the true strength.

Post

presumably the current way of loading VSTs SURELY wont be ditched in favour of a totally browser-based approach a la live ???
