It was almost exactly like them. Updates sometimes daily, and user input was very highly regarded and implemented quickly.

But remember, Tracktion has a larger userbase now then either of those apps. They can't do things the same way these days. It just wouldn't make for a good, solid app.

Also remember that Beno isn't the only Mackie guy who comes here. He's not the only lurker. Mackie is well aware of the needs and wants of users.

Yes, that's the way it was. You'll notice how many people have started nagging Jorgen and whining about XT2... and how many people have also noticed Reaper slowing down...

Jules and Tracktion were ahead of the curve in innovation, but were also ahead of the curve therefore in becoming mature apps and then the inevitable slowdown.

Even Sonar and Live 6, which are friggin' SWEET-seeming apps, aren't really THAT markedly different from their predecessors...

Absolutely, Brent. Thanks for all that - I appreciate your input and where you are coming from.

There's just a few things that will explain why I am interested in this at all (some people may doubt that I genuinely am!):

Firstly, when I compare with other hosts, it is simply to explain the point I am making with an illustration. It doesn't mean I necessarily think that host "X" is altogether better than Tracktion - I don't. It's just the way I try to explain features. I know that sometimes people misinterpret that, and I hope I have clarified it.

Secondly, I think that Tracktion's overall workflow + Sonar's features would be the ultimate host! Bearing in mind that I very much doubt Sonar will suddenly have Tracktion's ease of workflow, my hope is that Tracktion might develop a few more of Sonar's features at least, and tip the balance.

BUT - I wouldn't want it to have ALL of Sonar's features. The fact is, Sonar has a lot of legacy stuff that I don't need and which, tbh, just gets in my way. That is why I remain VERY interested in Tracktion.

Lastly, the reason I have/use multiple hosts is basically in part because of my job (teaching). It is useful to have some knowledge of a wide range of software, because in my consultancy work I am often asked to compare/contrast different options. You can rest assured that I regularly still recommend Tracktion , even though personally as you know I do enjoy working with Live and Sonar.

I don't know about HQ, but personally i'd love to see features present in other sequencers in Tracktion - partly to see how they would implement it, because i'm pretty sure that (if the new coders are staying true to the original RMS vision) they would implement these features in a very easy to use way.
did that make sense? feeling a bit rough today.
For me there were things missing in Tracktion - yet I still love the paradigm basically.

Its called hyperbole.

but user input does mean alot. Inevitably Justin will do what he wants, but there are constantly new ideas and improvements due to the user base

Reaper HAS slowed down, and will likely slow down some more. Sure, you never know what's going on behind the scenes. But the fact is, the updates are coming slower, and tbh, have never been huge significant updates. Most updates were small fixes and UI changes and such.

Despite that, some people still think that Reaper won't slow down. Trust me, it will. Every software developer that has come out of the gate like Justin has ended up doing it. And Reaper will do the same. It's normal. I've said it before. The userbase will grow. The application will mature. Bugs will slowly disappear. And updates won't be needed every day. New apps ALWAYS start off faster because they have alot of catching up to do.

I don't say this to criticize, but to bring things into reality.

But back on topic here, user input IS important with Tracktion. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just guessing with no evidence to support such a claim.

I think some people should just wait until the full feature set is released and then judge by that. Who knows, you may just be happy.

Of course loop features are the only features that are being added.

And besides, do you think the only time people use loops are for other people's stuff? And do you think that loop features are not used by people these days?
