Hi. I am in search for some EQ wich will add some character, color or nice improvement per channel. Is UAD Pultec any good. I can't find decent audio examples so maybe posting question here will put some answers. Do you like your UAD pultec and can you say what it does to your music. I am ready to order UAD Flexi (because of comps too but nice eq is what i am looking for now).

It's hard to describe in words, really. Just by turning it on in the mix, there is a subtle improvement that just sounds 'better' to my ears at least. As long as you haven't already activated the demo, you should be able to play with it for yourself and see. I really like it, and use it very subtly to boost my lows and highs on the master mix.

much better for the mix is the Neve EQ - but Pulteq is also very good

Well if you're looking for a channel EQ don't underestimate the Cs/Ex basic EQs, they're significantly more effective than you'd ever expect and as a package have a slight but distinct analogue feel.

The Cambridge didn't inspire me, in fact I haven't activated mine after the demo. Good workmanlike technical EQ for subtractive work. The Neve looks good, but I'm saving up my 14 days demo for a particular track I'm working on, so I won't comment - it's one of the most basic of Neve designs, so I'd expect it to have limited appeal - the demos always have it on drums - which may (or may not) say something about its range.

The Pultec is very good heading into superb, but I wouldn't think it would find a home on many channels (but definitely one or two here and there). It's much more of a bus-type EQ. It has a distinct colouration and is capable of quite impressive boosts without messing the sound up unmusically. Very good at pumping plummy roundness into a thin bass and lifting high end air into dull sources. But it is a very blunt tool.

I agree! You could definately try it out! I think it has something very interesting going on in the middle regions. Better for boosting than cutting (hence its name!). But it doesn't compare to UAD Pultec when it comes to the higher frequencies.

Both plugins have a boomy bottom that sometimes is useful and sometimes not.

Like HanafiH says, the Pultec is great, just not for every track. It's a joy both for cuts and boosts, provided you want that character. Now, don't ask me to describe the character with words, you have to listen to it.;)

You can listen to demo clips of the pultec and pultec pro here at UA's website- http://www.uaudio.com/products/digital/ ... /demo.html

Very nice, unique and special sounding eq. I agree with others you won't want it on everything but it has magic to it. Also look into the Neve and precision eq's, there both great as well.

I'd love to try this and AB with my UAD plugins but for some reason ever time I try to download a .rar file, it just opens a page of text and I can't download! Is there another way I can get hold of this?
