That's weird...I hadn't heard of this before but a buddy of mine had gotten Sonar 5 a couple months ago and never touched it. So I was helping him set it up last week, and I was trying to hook him up with some free vst's and they wouldn't show!

Actually, the Fish Fillets were the only ones that would...Voxengo's and Kjaerhus Classics would not. Neither will Perfect Space! I was stumped, and now he's all annoyed at me and Sonar. But I have 5 PE and everything's fine on mine!

The weirdest part is the scanner sees them and registers them, but then they don't show in the fx bin. so odd...

Post

yeah, they are "scanned", if that's what you mean ..

but then they don't show up in the plugin manager or anywhere else ..

I had this problem when setting up freebie VST's at a friend's house. The plug in manager thing saw it but I couldnt find it in Sonar. (though I think it was version 3)

I had the same kind of flakey behaviours with 2.2 and am saddened to hear them still occuring at V6. I could never get them fixed even after reformats and completely new PCs. I have been looking at V6 and thinking maybe it's time to get back into Sonar.

Reading this kind of thing, maybe not :(

They did release two or three versions of S4 after S5 came out...

If you're having problems with plugins pre-V6, the tool called 'Check' at http://www.whiterabbitdesign.co.uk/cgi- ... tuff/tools will give you details on all your wrapped plugins.

Disabled 8.3 filename (NTFS)?

Post

kp wrote:Disabled 8.3 filename (NTFS)?
?? hm?

what do you mean?

no, i don't think so ..

Post

There's an option (registry setting) that stops NTFS generating 8.3 filenames when creating/renaming a file - it improves performance especially on directories with large numbers of files (and especially if the filenames start similarly, because of how file sorting/searching works).

For backwards compatability, the VST code in SONAR 6 uses the 8.3 filename of the dll, so if 8.3 has been disabled, you'll have problems.

But if you don't know, then probably you haven't disabled it :-)

yeah, it was done already. i guess tuneup utilities or some other optimization prog has done it for me =/

so, thank you very much for trying, but didn't help =/

i don't understand what it can look for that's different in my DAW compared to my other xp machine =//

btw, i just tried kjaerhus classic reverb, and at least that works ...

Does that mean Disable8Dot3 is set to 1? It needs to be set to 0 (and a reboot) for the VST Scan to work properly.
