Wow, sounds excellent! That Huck Finn patch is excellent.
Unfortunately, I find it really difficult to program, so I probably won't be buying it. It's not impossible to read, but it certainly takes some effort. The real problem is that I find it hard to get an idea of what the patch is going to sound like because of the use of knobs instead of sliders. More compact, yes. Easier to work with? Certainly not for me.
However, I could really see myself using this as my go-to bass synth. Truly excellent quality there. If there's enough good bass patches, I could still be interested in this (which is hard for me to say since I usually program from scratch).

Warmonger,
One of the "Coming Soon" items that I forgot to include was "MANY MANY MORE PRESETS". So don't worry, by the time she's done (which is NEVER, software is NEVER done!) but ok, let's say, within a year... there will be hundreds of patches available. Possibly thousands (we intend to eventually offer them for free, on the website.)
It's just not time to concentrate on pre-set patches yet, as subtleties of the voice are still subject to change for the next few weeks. Soon though! And I'm very glad to hear you like it! Everyone likes Huck Finn! Geddy Lee just earned his free copy! (Contact me.)
Now, as far as difficult to program... I've been "programming" analog synths since 1983, and I really believe that, given it's complexity, Poly-Ana is a VERY intuitive synth to program. Give her a few days before you write her off as too hard. There's no way to both offer a LOT of features, AND make it all simple. Myself, I'm more than happy with the voice architecture/layout (and I've been designing it in my imagination since I was 14!) It's fun BECAUSE it's hard. Easy is just too... easy!
This is also part of the reason that the "Default" patch is boring. It's meant to be a common starting place for programming new patches. There will probably also be a "reset to Default program" feature eventually, as well as a "set default program"... not a promise. But stuff I'd like to see myself so it's VERY likley it will happen.
Thanks!

Looks like I've found a showstopper bug (at least for my setup).
I'm running PolyAna on Tracktion for PC. I'm able to add it to a track, the interface is displayed and I get the 7 day evaluation dialog box. I click OK and..... nothing. Tracktion locks up.

By difficult to program, it's not the synth architecture that I'm having a problem with so much as the GUI itself. I've been saying that ever since I saw the first screenshot. I understand that you don't want to change it, so it's not really worth explaining my issues. I suppose the problems can be overcome by simply spending some time with it, and it's not fair comparing usability with other synths that I've been using for years. A week probably isn't going to be enough time to give it a fair chance against my standbys.
Next time I want to do a Tom Sawyer cover, I know just where to look though.
gbles:
Works fine for me in Tracktion.

I dunno about you but they certainly had magic holograms back in the 70's, Princess Leia anyone?TotcProductions wrote:Nope, bduffy wrote:So it's not just me! I got my PayPal account ready to go over here!
Hey, did that "Huck Finn" patch almost blow your nuts off, Totc? That was instant love for me. Wow.
And I agree about the interface. I absolutley adore its largeness, its look, the feel; but as a very modest tweaker on LCD monitors...I simply don't know what a lot of these things are. But I would say if you loaded this with enough presets, then whatever!
Or how about floating hints over hotspots? Not just you! I played the first patch, the default one, and went "egh, we'll see"...then "Huck Finn" came up and BOOM! Sold!
Immediately started diving into the controls...absolutely sick sound on this thing! Very excited....obviously

Come to think of it, Floating boxes displaying the parameter name in full, and the current position as you move it would be another good way of addressing the interface problem.

Sounds great, much better than Zebra IMHO, although a bit reverby
The layout is very logical, I'd find it very pleasing to program... but:
The GUI still has f**ked up contrast, it's instant eye-ache, extremely tiring to look at. I said it earlier but I say it again - go check it on other screens and compare it with other computer programs. The font is also very blurred

Admiral Quality, I'd say the GUI seems to be an issue for alot of people.
There are a number of ways you can fix that.
-Tooltips is a must.
-The Korg Legacy thing, where you can zoom-in is a great idea! How about zooming into a only particular part of the synth not the entire thing.
-One more: I think you could pull a Moog Modular V2 - ie : put an option for scrolling up and down if you're say running Poly-Ana on a laptop's smaller screen!
Aside from that, Congratulations man!!

Holy shit this thing sounds so good, finally I think a VA is capable of doing this bass sound with all the gut and power that comes from a real analog: http://www.dogphonograph.com/images/O1.mp3
The Bassmaster patch immediately reminded me of that ARP2600 Oxygene 1 Bass, similar kinda punchyness that's impossible to achieve with most VA's.

AdmiralQuality, there is another suggestion and I think this one matters alot to the pleasantness/easyness of programming Poly-Ana.
The knobs, when you go to turn them always JUMP, thus the original sound is lost!
I think GForce's Minimonsta has one of the most pleasant knob movement algos around, I'm sure there are alot of other VST/i's out there, but I can't think of them right now.
Definately have a look at Minimonsta!

AQ,
very nice sounding synth, but I've found a serious bug. Load the default patch, switch on the 12/24 db led and turn up resonance. If you sweep cutoff the sound pretty much collapses: strong white noise, crackling sound, phase issues, sound disappearing, etc. I've tried switching off all the mods, fiddling with gain structure, etc, but nothing seems to affect it. If the 12/24 db led is off, the filter response is fine.
This is in energyxt 1.4 and sx 3.1.1 using 44.1/16b.

p.s. changing the quality setting moves the point of collapse around. Before the point is (generally) no sound, after is the unfiltered sound.

also, if the env1 curve knob is set to max left, the sound is reduced to clicks. I tried this with both env1 - amp1, env2 - filter1 and env1 - filter 1, env2 - amp 1
but I'm still probably going to buy this - it has a really nice tight, yet rich sound...

Since I'm on some sort of a posting bender, I think the only real shame about your gui is that the largest and most grabbable controls are switches that, generally, you will just set and forget...
