I was considering buying Sonalksis DQ1 for boosting frequencies while keeping the signal compressed to the original db. Any DQ users, whats your opinion on this plugin? Is it worth the buy or is it better just to stick to using separate eq and compressor plugins that I already own?

Also (for DQ users) can I use it to subtract frequency and enhance? Let me know your feelings on this!

I'm afraid I don't fully understand what you're up to ("keeping compressed to original db"?)..

DQ1 is a very nice plugin which I've been using mainly as troubleshooter when mastering at a friends studio.
It's pretty easy to hammer a sound that's sticking out of a mix back to where it belongs with this plugin.

But if you don't want to change dynamics (do you?) a "dynamic" EQ might not be what you're looking for...

Only thing that annoys me is that it only seems to have one sidechain filter. I'd like an extra one for every band.

Simple when you boost a selected frequency you also boost the db.

db is absolutely meaningless without a reference, since it's a relative measure. You seem to be talking about sound pressure level, or db(SPL), probably weighted for human perception, db(A).

So you want to boost a frequency while attaining the same overall perceptive volume level?

AFAIK the only EQ that does this is har-bal (one of the things that makes it special). But it's standalone, not a plugin.

huh? An EQ settings needs both. And a dynamic EQ even more...

NO no Blee.. where getting lost in terminology here.. I think I understand what your trying to say now.. So you think its better for mastering then?

I will just give the demo a whurl and see if it suits my needs..

Sonalksis DQ1 worth the buy?
