Hello,

New to the forum. I'm *seriously* interested in acquiring "ST 2.1 XL" and "SS2" early next year (post-major hardware upgrade to support such...). However, I have one absolutely ridiculous question first: will there be a version three of either prior to, say, March, 2007? Am I safe to snag the current version the moment it becomes feasible for me, or should I be patient for a spell in favor of a newer/more robust version? (*Really* looking forward to getting the existing versions!)

I've heard of a Sampletank 2.5, but not sure what it might contain other than some bug fixes, possibly some new content, and most importantly Mac UB support.

A couple of options to consider:

(1) If you're going to get both ST2.1XL and SS2, you might as well kick in a little more and get the Total Workstation bundle which will include Philharmonik as well.

If you pick up one of ESoundz' titles like Symphony Strings or Piano Collection now, you can use the ST2LE bundled with that to crossgrade to the Total Workstation. You'll save a few bucks overall and get some some good sounds to use now.

(2) Alternatively, get one of them first, and use the purchase of that to crossgrade to the other at a reduced price. Of the two, ST2XL is the less demanding one disk space wise. Again, if you pick up one of ESoundz' packages that contans ST2LE now, you can use that to upgrade to ST2XL, then crossgrade to SS2.

Finally, if you specify "dougsyo" as your EPointz referrer you'll get another $5 off.

There's no official news of SampleTank3. Wow, just looking at the text right there feels like science fiction! :hihi:

Doug,
I've considered "Total Workstations Bundle". The only thing preventing that is I can't justify the slightly greater expense for the inclusion of "Philharmonik". I'll never use 99% of it. "ST 2" will cover the classical-flavored bases for me. :)

I'll likely snag "SS2" and crossgrade to "ST2". I'd love to grab something right now that includes "ST2 LE", but I must upgrade the hardware front first. The PC I'm using became a museum piece years ago. I don't think "LE" would run...it's *that* bad! This won't be rectified 'til February/March...

However, I'm relieved to hear the aforementioned will more or less be in their current incarnations by that time. I'm really digging the demos I've heard of both (despite the dreadful MP3 format!) and the quality/quantity of sounds-to-price ratio is flatly the best around. :D There's one, maybe two competitors that offer something comparable, but I've not been impressed with what I heard there. It's gonna be a long damn five or six months any way I slice it...

Kim,
Appreciate your confirmation re: the matter as well. And yes, I heard ominous music and saw a bizarre mechanized entity approaching the Earth from somewhere out there re: your above "sci-fi" remark.

Thanks to both of you,
Jerod

Am I wrong but doesn't the total workstation bundle save you a hundred dollars off of buying SS2/ST2 seperately AND gives you the extra philharmonik? If that's the case this should be a no-brainer because you will save money and get more. Sure there are classical flavours in ST2 but nothing like what's in philharmonik which kicks a ton of ass. I still haven't tried the ST 2.1 soundset though.

anyways not sure what kind of music you work on but i typically dont use philharmonik in the sense of john williams mockups but for more or less any style of music that can use some extra texture.

I use Philharmonik for John Williams mockups. :hihi:

Hah well you have more preseverence than me. I have a hard time being patient with orchestration. :(

Mr. Tunes,

At the moment I could buy "SS2" and crossgrade to "ST2.1" (via esoundz.com) for $484.20. The "Total Workstations Bundle" is $599.00. :(

On the other hand...I just finished listening to several demos of "Philharmonik", as well as browsing the preset list. I may have to break down and get the "Bundle". I have a tympani and choir fetish  and there's a gaggle of both in "Philharmonik". The added options on these fronts might make the extra $$$ for the "Bundle" worthwhile. :D (BTW, my musical meanderings cover orignals in a variety of pop/rock veins from the 1960s-today.) I also couldn't help noticing the 100 MB Steinway Grand Piano...I never seem to have enough variety on the acoustic piano front, so that would also be cool to have!

ech, you can get one module for 500 or three modules for 600 i'd suggest getting all three. that's just me of course. i would be quite bored with music production without these three friends.

One module for $500?! It's two! Say it with pleasure! Two! :P  Seriously though...think you're right. Had a chance to listen to the demos again (through my favorite headphones) and I'm sold on having all three applications. Only problem will be avoiding the temptation to add "Philharmonik" to every track just because I can.
