This is why following the discussion is recommended. HOW many times do I need to say, "OK, probably, someday"?AdmiralQuality wrote:Still, I *might* at some later time add an option to replace the dials with dropdown lists for you. For me though that would totally spoil the paradigm and sense of immersion. But if it'll help sell a few more copies I'm sure at some point I'll be compelled...
OK, I'm out for the night. Getting pissed off. Customer support is still up but I'll come back to this thread in the morning. Have fun.

AdmiralQuality,
I am a little shocked that you tell people to go to another thread because this thread is for Beta debugging... I thought the name of the Thread was simply "Announcing Poly-Ana Beta 0.10 Special offer save $60"... that doesn't seem like an official bug testing thread to me. I am in accordance with all the other posters (seems like A LOT more than 5 to 1) that If I can't even get my GUI loaded correctly on the screen and find everything easily than why even bother.
I also have a lot of experience in interface design as well and my main rule is keep it simple and easy to use... because you can make the world's greatest application but if people feel uncomfortable using it than what is the point?
We are simply your possible buyers being very honest with you with what we want in a Synth (do you blame us?... there are so many Synths to choose from and so many synths have been tried to know what works and what doesn't)
Nontheless, I am glad that you are sticking to your vision... In the end, it is your product and you can do whatever you want, but if you want to sell a ton of your synths, it might be beneficial to pay attention to what the consumer says.
If you can't take constructuve criticism you should really not show your stuff to begin with... The worse thing you can do is make your Customer Support lose credibility by losing your cool and telling your potential buyers that you are "Pissed Off"

if i turn a semitone offset knob down then i get what feels like a de-normal problem. it happens on both osc1 and 2 so far. But, if i close the window for the synth everything is ok again (this is with no sound playing, no notes being sent..).
im using Live 6
nice sound though...its the only subtractive VA that has interested me in a long time..I thought the idea was pretty much pointless until now

I am considering buying this VST, but only if the GUI will remain exactly the way it is now. I love the style and the uniqueness and it fits the gorgeous sound.

Ok, next one. I was fiddling with the LFO's and the Mod Mixer when the LFO rate dial stopped responding to changes, then i got this error box :
Unmanaged Error
An attempt to read or write to/from an address to which that process isnt allowed, Line: -1, Module : OnError line support disabled.
and i had to quite Live from the task manager.

I didn't do any deep criticism, Admiral...I just joined Majken in requesting a skinnable GUI. This would seem to preserve the integrity of your design, while satisfying those who can't read it.AdmiralQuality wrote:All I'm asking though is that if you want to get DEEP into critique, do it in another thread.

Ok, i can get a consistent error with the LFO2 rate knob. If i close the GUI and re-open it, the knob always goes back to 0 but the actual rate stays where it should.

There are people who find the GUI unusable, and those who don't mind it much, true. But it's not as if you only get to make one group of them happy. Has anyone (other than M'snah, who is probably on drugs and may not even be humanoid) who has said that the GUI was acceptable actually said that it couldn't be better? If you improve it, you make those who are happy even happier, and give yourself some more potential customers. Is there anyone who has said, for example, that they would find the product less usable or less attractive if you replaced those rediculous selector wheels with a wheel-behind-a-window metaphor that can be rolled up or down? As several of us have remarked, that one change would reduce the size of the GUI by a huge margin *and* allow you to put in selector values that can actually be read under less-than-optimal viewing conditions.AdmiralQuality wrote:Sigh. NOT everyone is in agreement. If you were, I would do what you all dictated.Teksonik wrote:So listen to the Gui complaints!AdmiralQuality wrote: And make the product better for EVERYONE. Cool?
P.S Lots of the members of KVR have worked one on one with many many vst developers so it's not that uncommon (For a role model look to Jorgen of Energy XT fame). Listen to what they say. They know what they're talking about.
I know you put a lot of work into rendering and animating those wheels, and taken as abstract visual objects they're kind-of cool looking, but functionally it was a BAD DESIGN DECISION. These things happen. Knowing when and how to deal with them is a cardinal test of professionalism in a developer.

meanwhile....the bugs
when i press stop in Live ana doesnt stop playing. If i double click stop (which im assuming sends an all notes off or similar) then it does stop playing.
as for the UI, at first I was a bit WTF is going on..but now its ok. (about 3 hours later). The only issue i have is with the small modulation control knobs, depending on the text above the knob its sometimes difficult to see the value marker when its set to 12 o'clock. But i've trained my brain to realise that if i cant see the indicator, it means that its probably pointing straight up
and finally if you are considering any other features at all please think about adding LFO rate modulation. Its sadly lacking from 99% of synths (yes, i counted) but is immensely useful in designing sounds.
anyway..back to it.

Bugs noted, thanks! LFO Rate 2 is buggy AGAIN? Thought I had fixed that before release...
Don't worry. Bugs are easily fixed. Thanks for finding them, this is what Beta is all about. And M'Snah, don't worry, any concessions we make in the GUI will be options you can disable. (See? Compliments take 2 lines. Complaints take paragraphs and multiple posts.
)
Oh and I thought about modulatable LFO rates (LFO FM) but it just came down to not having enough screen real estate for it. And in VST-land, you can always automate.
EDIT: HOWEVER!... the oscillators can go pretty low and they have FM!!! Tried using an osc as a LFO?
