GUIfight '06 edition (Poly-Ana vs the naysayers)

The GUI's general flow and feel is fine, to me. It's quite easy to follow. What's a pain is some of the anti-aliasing on some of the lettering make in a righteous pain in the rear to read though, which to me, is distracting. It needs better clarity (and no label should be hidden behind switches as it is on the bottom left hand side.) I run my monitor in 1280x1024, so it's hard to make it too big for me.

Although apparently it'll change somehow in the next version of FL, really big GUIs are stuck "within" FL's screen-size in a way I can't really describe well but the bottom of giant plugs hangs out down below the viewable area and you can't "pull it up" high enough to get at everything.AdmiralQuality wrote:Oh... IS there something about FL that makes Poly-Ana difficult to use? (If so, blame tony tony chopper)
But really, if there is, please let me know.
Couple of the Dev contest ones are like that so, since I don't have polyanna to grab a screenie with I'll try to find something comparable in sie and show you a screenie here in a minute.

Why don't you have Poly-Ana? She's free for a week!runagate wrote:Couple of the Dev contest ones are like that so, since I don't have polyanna to grab a screenie with I'll try to find something comparable in sie and show you a screenie here in a minute.
And I guess I haven't noticed this because I work on an apparently HUGE 1280x1024 LCD.

I like the interface. It's a little bigger than my current screen but I think this is a forward-looking synth also judging from its CPU use. This is a very indulgent synth.
I'll be checking the change in my couch.

Like I said over on the other thread, it's an amazing GUI. But how hard would it be to either allow the synth to be skinnable, or, perhaps more workably, issue an alternate, more simple GUI, for smaller screens?

Here ya go:

Hope that helps you a little.
And the reason I don't demo it is
1) I have 1000 plugs and I don't demo stuff anymore lest I'm gonna buy it cuz it gets lost in there amongst the mess
2) I know how wicked your stuff is and I don't need the temptation atm.
Really, scamp was pretty much irresistable after I tried it. Shit sounds good
3) you have any idea how many plugs I'm testing this month?
It's over 50 but I lost count!

If you read the Coming Soon list, you'll see I've already promised different color schemes.inverseroom wrote:Like I said over on the other thread, it's an amazing GUI. It won't be user skinnable (mostly because we don't want our branding changed) but I could even see making custom backgrounds for a reasonable fee.

Dammit, that's the first time that a man has made fun of my "viewable area"
It's like an iceberg, most of it's hidden beneath the surface

Teehee.
runagate, sorry man, but you can always upgrade! (BTW, where in my profile does it say I'm a man?)
.jon, there WILL be other backgrounds available, soon. The controls themselves wont get any less contrasty though, but we'll provide backgrounds that are. I think I'll also do a "pixel font" version for people who don't like the antialiased text.
I find it a bit odd that people complain about readability and then in the same post say it's too contrasty. What is more readable than pure black on pure white (or reverse)? My word processor seems to think that's the way to go.

That's great, the dark knobs are not impossible to work with, it's mainly just the maximum contrast between the red background and the other stuff..jon, there WILL be other backgrounds available, soon. The font is readable IMO, just a little bit soft but that's nothing new in VSTs or other anti-aliased targets. A less saturated background probably helps the readability as well anyway.

Aye, after a while (what with the visual overstimulation and all), my eyes felt like I was looking at Urs' keygen-fighting trick:lex_strooder wrote:blured eye vision...

I like the way it looks, but it is too big practically speaking. Also, alot of the knobs are too big. It should fit on 1024x768 monitor & preferably come with more than one skin so everyone is happy (or as happy as every1 can get)
