A very exciting thread to put it mildly
.
! My, oh, my! How cool wouldn't it be to have a general stream co-processor in your computer? Just imagine all the fields of applications there could be! Then imagine including a physics simulation co-processor...

Extremely interesting news! Thanks for sharing that with us, djsynchrodjsynchro wrote:"At a press event earlier this week, ATI unveiled their plans to start selling GPUs for applications outside the realm of graphics. No specific products were announced, but the company would like for its GPUs to find uses in high performance computing applications."
"What AMD/ATI would like to do is partner with software developers to find new applications for stream processing, applications that they can then support on their hardware. The idea is not to compete with general-purpose CPUs, but to complement them by selling the GPU as a generic stream coprocessor that be used in multiple application domains."
"One of the pieces to this puzzle that AMD/ATI is working to address involves increasing the amount of two-way communication between the GPU and the rest of the system, including the CPU. This is needed if the GPU is going to be able to rise to the level of a full-blown coprocessor, instead of merely processing output and sending the results straight to the display. One way of attacking this is at the chipset level, by using Xpress Route to more closely link multiple PCIe-based GPUs with each other and with the CPU."

cool read! exciting stuff going on here.... big up mr. schneider for pushing this forward. if it ends up being practical and usable and decent-sounding, then i will have the same problem as someone already mentioned in this thread...

Could you send me the two log files of the gpu delay after it crashed? This would help.djsynchro wrote:New GPUdelay crashes Ableton Live 6.0.1 when it first scans the plugin.
GPUchorus works. Bit heavy on the CPU but I managed to get multiple instances running.

Hi Nils,
Just wanted to let you know, that the new version of the gpudelay is the first that works on my system
Haven't tried the chorus 'cause I only have a geforce fx5200, so it won't work anyway but the delay seems to work just fine. I'll try the chorus on my laptop though were I have a geforce 6600go, that should work, right?
Thanks a lot for your great work!
cheers,
Niko

All Geforce 5... cards support PS 2.0b so the chorus should work, too.

Just wanted to ask the same
The chorus shouldn't be possible if wikipedia isn't wrong about the radeon 9550 specs....
