Reason doesn't have metronome count-in?

I was watching a friend work on a track in Reason 3 the other day, and there doesn't seem to be a metronome count-in feature (where you can set how many beats/measures to count-in before recording starts)? How can that be? That's one of the most basic sequencer features for recording, isn't it? I know that Orion has it, and I wouldn't be surprised if all major sequencers on the market does as well. Can anyone confirm this bizzare omission by Propellerhead?

You're right. I hate that too.

It's not that bizzare. Reason's sequencer is extremely spartan, so this is exactly the kind of feature that I would expect it to omit. Sucks, but that's life.

That's amazing to hear, hard to believe. I suppose one could make a small count-off pattern and use that...

Its been like that forever and will always be like that. I (along with many others) requested that back in version 1.1. Stuborn bastards.

Anyways the easiest way to get by without count in is to just set the playhead 1 or 2 bars before the end of the loop and have it loop back to the beginning. Then start recording. Thats what I used to do.

Why can't you place a small midi file into the redrum channel (in the 1 bar count in) with the correct time sig? Have a folder with a selection of time sigs to save the hassle .

That sounds like MORE hassle to me, but whatever floats your boat.

Really, just slide your project 1 bar over.

If it's an initial count in you need.

I now use Reason 3 mainly as a "Rewired" instrument...therefore, I have my count-in from Live. :) That's the expensive way to fix the problem. :) But I do agree that it shouldn't be too hard for Props to add this feature. What's holding them back? I'm not sure....

I too use it as a rewired instrument, but with Cubase there's an annoying drop out in the first beat or so. Does this happen with live?

they have used all that time to add coffe cup holders.

Reason doesn't have so many things, but it is and will be my favourite tool.

I suppose that now you will claim that lack of metronome is a "feature" by itself as other reason users claim that lack of VST support is "feature" not a drawback

You always find a way to deal with inconveniences. The lack of audio is a far bigger problem, when you play 'real' instruments and sing. I dislike re-wire.

I think it's stupid too that it doesn't have count-in.. but seriously folks, just put the cursor a bar or so earlier and stop whining
