did I mention that the tape echo emulations are second to none in gearbox? the tube echo is fanfeckin tastic...

I have a UX1, and I was anticipating this VST plugin for months. At first, I expected it to cost 99 dollars. But when it came out yesterday, with a price of 199$, I was put off alittle.

But then I realized, if Line 6 made it any cheaper, no one would buy the Silver or Gold packs. They would just buy a UX1 (or other device) and pay for the upgrade, which would be cheaper, and better (than the USB DI you get with the silver/gold packs)

Eventually Ill probably buy the plugin. But 200 dollars is a little steep still. I don't think i need the after-recording flexibility with my tones just yet.

it's not limited to gearbox though is it? Don't forget to keep the heads clean

I was giving it some thought until I saw the price tag. I already have Guitar Rig, so I think I'll give it a miss. Not sure I can really justify spending $200 of the money I'm putting towards a new alto sax...

compy i have guitarport and already upgraded/use it.

you dont /NEED/ the extra modelpacks, and you could buy them over time if you really wanted them.

Being that Line 6 actually makes guitars and guitar amps, I think their guitar tone emulations are light years ahead of anyone else

The Gearbox VST is basically the exact same thing as the normal Gearbox. only its in VST form, not front-end recording form. So yeah. presets should be interchangable.

btw... Gearbox VST has the same issue as some others (e.g. SpectrumWorx) in energyXT: the input gets disconnected when you change the path (e.g. switch amp type, stomp box, etc).

In the past, I've owned a Marshall JMP1, Marshall JCM 2000 TSL, Peavey 5150, Mesa Boogie Triaxis (rackmount dual rectifier), Rocktron Chameleon, Rocktron Pirahna, Digitech 2112, and quite a few others over the last 10 years...

Right now I use a Line 6 POD XT. It gives me the sounds of all those units mentioned above, in a nice $200ish (used) kidney bean.

Guitar Rig might be nice to play with on screen, but it still doesn't have the TONE that Line 6 can do.

I did plenty research and testing before deciding on Line6. It's not an amp, but for what I need such a unit for, it's the best in the industry, still.

There's a reason session guitarists carry PODs around and studios keep them on-hand.

They're just very different. Guitar Rig has some weaknesses that Gearbox addresses, but I don't really want to have a huge collection of software and have to swap between them for particular sounds.
