What Is The Best Freeware Realtime Timestretch VST? I've Tried Dblue's Cool Little Plug In But Have Been Having Issues With It Since Upgrading To Sonar 6.

You can't do a Realtime Timestretch VST. It just wouldn't work...

Not realtime... :)

What about the free delaydots timeworks ?
maybe it isn't realtime... ?

It's definately not a realtime VST timestretch. There's no such thing as a realtime timestretch. If slowing down the speed, you'll need infinite amount of RAM, and if increasing the speed, you need to be able to look into the future. Neither is a possibillity in the VST realm.

I guess in theory you could create a vst that could slow down the incoming audio in real time, but you could never speed it up, because plugins can't read ahead. It's theoretical though because it would require buffering all incoming audio, so you'd fill up the harddrives fast if you run it for a long time and slow the audio down a lot...
As a sidenote: I just implemented timestreching in LiveSlice (not realtime, not free, but cheap and great value). Will be in next beta. Very useful if you want to timestretch loops.

Here's the one I did which Cheeky originally mentioned:

It cannot speed up the audio since that's impossible to do in realtime as you've already correctly pointed out. It only slows down the audio but it cannot do that forever either since that's also impossible due to memory restictions. I've simply implemented a buffer size parameter which allows a maximum of 60 seconds to be recorded.

Once you trigger the effect it will simultaneously begin to record audio and play back the stretched version. Once the playback point reaches the end of the buffer - which could be up to 13200 seconds (3.66 hours!) later thanks to a maximum stretch ratio of 1:220 - the effect simply stops itself.

It's possible to adjust the grain size and other values in realtime, including a hold parameter which will fix the playback point in one place until it is released, allowing you to do some pretty fun and wacky stuff to the audio. All in all it's a fun little effect which is good for short bursts of granular weirdness and time-stretching fun. I plan to tweak it a little more in the future, probably to add some pitch shifting options (within reason) and a few options for buffer looping methods, but not much else.

Disclaimer: It was really just a quick thing I did in one evening. It has not been extensively tested in many hosts, though it seems to work perfectly ok in Renoise. There's nothing fancy going on, it was never intended to have an amazingly clean sound, it's just some simple overlapping of sample buffers so it's kinda got that rough, oldskool jungle sound to it. It's good for very obvious stuff, "lofi" stretching, granular-ish sounds, weird drones, etc. If you want clean, musical results, I recommend you process your sounds in PaulStretch :P

Edit: Here are a few simple demo sounds I made a few weeks ago

FWIW, cool plug (dual meaning!), might come in handy some day :) (Mainly thinking of breaks, it's in the breaks I usually bring forth the lofi goodness :))

I'll try to look into this sometime soon. I dunno if there's a demo of Sonar 6 available or not yet though?

Also, have you tried tweaking the VST's properties in the Sonar VST wrapper thing? Maybe you just need to adjust some of the properties in there to get it working with Sonar 6?

Yes !
THank you Dblue : this plug is damn fine !
may it be on breaks or drones or whatever....
Tempo-synced, used with a controller (and maybe a fanct GUI as you know how to do them ;) ), this thing would be THE shit_z for realtime breakz !

chopitch does this - trigger based tape style pitch manipulation

one trick pony, but does it ruddy well.
i made a realtime granular time stretcher in reaktor a few years ago, excellent for strange envelope-driven time-stretching granular noise, but i was looking for something different at the time, which still doesn't exist (realtime stretching/shifting/scaling/freezing/morphing thing)

thanks dblue! very fun plug.
was just playing with it alongside ioplong's sloper:

having a slow-mo blast.

Maybe I don't understand what you're asking, but Sonar 6 has built-in on-line and off-line timestretch algorithms... it's click and drag.

What are you looking to do with it?
