Only a short while to go...

Post

Hey Benedict, just thought I'd pop in and say that PreRoll recorder has become quite indispensable to me as part of composition. I like to improvise a lot of the time (find it gives me a better flow than trying to think "4 bars of this, 8 bars of that" all the time). I usually leave my computer on with a nice tone set up and pre-roll recorder running, then I just pick up and jam whenever I feel like it, confident that if I do something good, it will be captured for me to 'learn properly'

... no idea on the new PR buddy though... :D

Post

Thanks Glurgle. Hearing that kind of thing makes this so much bettter :D . {You will get quoted on the PRR page}

Ok Y'all

It's done...

Roll Buddy is your new PRR friend

Roll Buddy is - oh just go here and roll down  to read about him

http://benedict.presetbank.net/PRollRec.html

He is free for existing PRR owners (from your secret link) and included for new PRR purchasers too.

This means that PRR is done for this cycle. What next? 2 things:
  • 1. Work on SSP II
    2. I also feel a need to be composing again so I will put some time into making music too - spread things around a bit
Of course I will still be here and on the SynthStudio Pack threads almost every day.

PreView Buddy is useful and unique! :) I have just used it to update all the preview mp3s in my music gallery.

Thanks Benedict for your fast work on this!

For me the best way of using it was to script it as an offline VST within Adobe Audition then batch process my commercial files, converting them to mp3s at the same time.

I have a couple of questions and requests:
  • * What internal resolution does it work at? I was using 16 bit source material for my gallery but what if it were 32 bit? Would there be any internal conversion/quantisation?

    * Could the beep effect work like a sidechain, ducking the original audio when the beep occurs? That would be very useful for processing loud source material.

    * The displayed values on the 'Timer' section don't update while the effect is being adjusted in Audition 1.5. They only update when the effect is actually applied.

    * I was a bit fazed by the fact that the three preview options (drop/beep/modulate) aren't mutually exclusive, and that activating more than one of them doubles the audio instead of simply adding the preview effect to the existing audio stream. I suggest either making them mutually exclusive or at least making sure they don't duplicate the audio.
Thanks again.

Hi Iain

Glad PVB is what you needed. To answer:

* seeing as it is for pre-views resolution shoudn't really be an issue but I seem to recall that SE works at 32 bit.

* If you combine Dropper and Beeper then you will get a duck on the source

* I haven't tested in Audition and I hear that things can be a bit funny VSTwise there. I'm not sure that I can change that sorry. Workaround would be to create presets in a sequencer and then open them in Audition.

* I'll look into the 'audio doubling' thing. Didn't realize it did that. Hope to get that fixed.

I'll check out your previews (with pride :D ) too

:)

Hi,

Thanks for your answers!

Don't worry too much about Audition - it can indeed be eccentric, and I don't think a v1.5 demo is still available for developer testing. Anyway it's not a show-stopping bug.

Re: ducking the source, that's what I was trying to do when I discovered that each preview effect 'duplicates' the audio stream. So, although 'drop' does lower the sound, it's unnoticable because 'beep' is still passing it at full volume.

Hope you enjoy the previews. I had fun recording the friendly-but-firm 'preview' voice! :)

Yeah that "Preview" fellow really breaks the vibe  And a nice vibe it is.

Ummm  I had all the audio routings up the wazoo. Worked well in single modes but no go for doubling up.

I believe that it is all sorted now with the ability to run all 3 modes at once using the "Drop" as a ducker, as I intended.

New version at your special link

Let me know how that goes.

:)

All quiet over here...

Are we enjoying the new Buddies :D or are there issues :( ?

Or are you just wondering what you can do with them :? ?

lol maybe you should rename the plugin 'vibe-breaker'! :)

I've downloaded the new version but haven't had cause to it yet. When I do, I'll let you know if I notice any bugs.

Thanks for the quick fix, anyhow. 8)

No worries Iain

Hey I was wondering if you would like to share your "Preview" sample with others. It could go in the standard release or be an extra download either public or hidden.

:)

Post

Sure Benedict, check your email - I've sent the preview sample along with a couple of others. :) I'm happy for these to be distributed for free with the public release - and would be grateful if you could link to my site from your own. ;)
