Does Gigastudio have advantages over Kontakt? Or Vice Versa

I own both, and imho Kontakt 2 is better in every single possible way. For one thing, Gigastudio uses system drivers, they start with windows, and are linked to windows, so if gigastudio crashes, which it does very, very often, then your whole system goes down with it. The library is almost all demo, or limited content of full libraries, you have to have a GSFI soundcard to run it out of rewire mode (its not a vst), and its capabilities are simply limited compared to K2 even if you get it stable.

K2's library is great quality, its scripting engine is just pricelss, Ive never had it crash, or have any unexpected behavior, it can run standalone, dxi, or vst.

anyone feel free to add some pluses for gigastudio, but I sure dont know any.

:edit: dev's first choice for libraries latly seems to be K2 oriented as well.

1.Gigapulse can be a reason for me to use Gigastudio3(before gigapulse vst announced....).
2.For people who don't use a VST host like Cubase and in need of quality sampling liberaries,Gigastudio seems to be the best choice.

I'll agree Gigapulse is good, but its only within gigastudio, (and kontakt 2 has a surround convo reverb as well)Kontakt runs standalone, so you dont need a vst host. I do own gigapulse vst, thats a great product

Kontakt 2's giga import isnt that great, so I wouldnt rely on it. unless you have a specific Giga library that you already have in mind tho, Im sure you can find a K2 equivilent, have anything in mind?

oops sorry i never know kontakt runs standalone..
my bad :P

yeah i have the full vienna orchestra set

no prob playmuzic, to be fair, im probly coming off as rather harsh, gigastudio just hasnt been good to me

is this the VSL set that comes with giga orchestra? If so, no worries, the Kontakt 2 library has this, while im not sure if its exactly the same, its 7.5gb's, I believe its the same one your talking about?

I've never been able to run Gigastudio demos on my pc's, while Kontakt installed and runs smoothly. :s...

Gigastudio sounds much better than Kontakt!
Less aliasing, better low and high response, etc. I U couple Giga with a very good audiocard (and, why not, a dedicated PC) the program has no real contenders.
Also look for Giga teleport utility in google.
The gig format is the best sampling format available, Kontakt can import it but it can't utilize it at 100%.

Kontakt has realtime resampling and VST native, but sounds not so crystalline...

Anyway 2 beasts...
Less is more!

give vsampelr a try. it has a quite good giga import, can run as vst, dxi or standalone (but no mac), and it sounds much better than kontakt. the only thing you might miss is the scripting in kontakt2. It also does not have a convolution engine inside, but you can use any vst fx since it is a vst host. (my choice is voxengo pristine space when it comes to convolution).

cheers, akj

ok, true, but Giga cant even attempt to import any Kontakt format either, so thats not a good point, and K2 can import all of this..

Ok, so how often are you going to be using Gigastudio or Kontakt for playing samples beyond their base pitch? Uhh, right. That's the only time aliasing would really come into play. When you're working with a library like QLSO or VSL, every note you would use in the patch is sampled. If you load a WAV of a violin section playing C6 into K2 and GS, it will sound identical. There might be a difference if you play the WAV at C7 in both samplers, but simply put, that's not going to happen anymore with the libraries of today.

As for "better low and high response"... that's voodoo, sorry. Load a square wave into both programs at A440, identical setup, same volume, the spectrum of frequencies would match perfectly.
