Me and my wife make music together. It's a classic scenario: boy makes tunes, girl makes lyrics and sings. To make the tunes, I have Cubase SX. As she has Cubase SE (SX would be way to heavy for her uses) it's no use to give her my project files.

So I exported stereo files so my wife could import them in Cubase SE and make lyrics and melodies on her own computer. Now she's done, and I want to bring her vocal parts into my computer again. (I'll rearrange the music according to her parts, and after that we'll record the eventual vocals on my machine.)

I could just grab the audio files from her audio folders, but then I would have to sort out the right takes, and the right timing. I could also export an audio mixdown of her vocals, and import that in my project. Then I'll have the right takes and the right timing, so that seems the way to go.

But I'm wondering if there's a more efficient way. I could think of merging her project in mine (SX will open SE files), or maybe I should do it diferent from the start. Any ideas?

Anyways...

does SE actually support exporting tracks archives (not sure about this one)?. if so, its definitely the best way to go about exchanging tracks between projects(all your edits and comps are preserved, without the need to consolidate).

another way to do it would be to copy the SE project to your rig and open then it alongside your main SX project.after that, you can simply drag and drop the desired takes from your wife's project into your own.

and if all fails, you can always go the export way, of course...

Unfortunately, SE doesn't export track archives. But as our computers are connected, I can do the other thing you suggested.

Also, you could install SX on both machines and share the dongle.

I maybe mistaken but I'm sure someone wrote a little app to allow projects to be compatible between SX and SE.

I don't think SX have a problem reading SE projects (But probably not the other way around, though).

SX reads SE projects fine indeed, that's not the problem.

@MickGael: you mean physically switching the dongle between the computers?

Cubase: how to exchange between SX and SE?
