Augustus Loop quit after 20 minutes of use because it is not registered (i have paid for it though, this is a new computer and i havent typed in the code yet), and it stopped my recording, and inside my Rax Recordings folder is the 260mb .aiff, but i cant get anything to play it. it says its a big file though so i thought there has to be a way to get a program to see inside it...

this image is what it looks like when i try to open the .aiff with Pro Tools

this recording is extremely important to me and any help anyone out there can give me is greatly appreciated!!

You might want to talk to the guys who wrote Rax (who are nice people).

I imagine what has happened is that Rax relies on going back to the file header at the end of the recording and filling in the total length, once it knows the length (i.e. once you've finished recording). So you could probably prod one number in the file and it would all be fine.

Quite how you do that if you're not a programmer is a different question.

OK, here's a suggestion.

Go to http://ridiculousfish.com/hexfiend/ and download Hex Fiend. Load your aiff file into Hex Fiend, take a screen shot of the window, and post it. I should be able to tell you what to do from there.

It would also help if you can remember whether the file should be stereo or mono, 44.1kHz or 48kHz, 16 or 24 bit.

I'd also need to know the exact file size - select the file in the Finder, Apple+I to get the file info, and look at the size (the exact number in bytes).

im pretty sure it was mono, 16bit, 44.1khz

if anything would differ from that it would be 24bit instead of 16bit. but im pretty sure its 16bit.

thank you so much again

this is the way it looks when i open it in the program. i thought maybe the number of rows/columns whatever might be easier to look at or something (i dunno.. but in the first jpg i uploaded i stretched the window out so you could see more...

OK, try this.

- make a duplicate of the file, just in case something bad happens!
- open the file in hex fiend
- in the edit menu, 'enable overwrite mode'
- position the cursor after the 02 in the second row (the bottom of the window should say '22 out of ... '
- type 04152C00
- (if you're in overwrite mode, as you should be, the following data e.g. the FLLR shouldn't move)
- save the file.

That *may* work. You may find when you play the file back that the end goes a bit wonky.
