I dunno, $200 bucks seems reasonable to me. I look at it like this. I bought my Guitarport and the model packs long before I knew about VST support (minus the Bass model pack), and have gotten some damn good mileage out of them. Now, GearboxVST comes out, and the upgrade is only $200? Not cheap, but still cheaper than going out and buying AT2 brand new and hoping the Syncrosoft dongle works for me, while I already know my Guitarport (dongle) works. So basically, I get the good ampsim plug-in I've been craving, with sounds that I know are proven, and it's about half of what AT2 costs. Oh, and I already own the hardware. Yup, I personally ain't gonna complain.

Has anyone tested the plugins at 96Khz? Is there a noticeable difference in the sound? On my XT Live there is some aliasing with high notes. I wonder if running the plugin at a higher sampling rate would cure this.

I was already familiar with VST's when I bought the Toneport. I was frankly surprised that there was no way to use it as a plugin since it was purely software to begin with. They never promised a free upgrade to offer this capability, but having to pay 100% of what I initially paid over again to get what should have been there to begin with is a bit rich for me.

But, lots of folks seem to be happy with it and thats what matters. It doesn't seem like a good value to me ($200(toneport)+$200(model packs)+$200(vst)), but that's just me.

I'm with you chris, I just still cannot find any benefits for me. I do not really do much re-amping (okay I have never re-amped), so I just do not see what spending 200 bux will do for me. But that's not to say it isn't great for others, I do like the gearbox itself over the line 6 edit as an interface.

I'd like to be able to adjust the tones after they are recorded, but to some degree, this can be done already by recording without the cabinets and adding cabinets in realtime via impulses. I've got ten times as many cabinets in impulse form as Line 6 provides (including the line 6 ones). You wouldn't want to change a recorded track from a small tweed to a recto anyway because you play those amps differently anyway.

I don't mean to discourage anyone who has bought the VST plugin... I hope they enjoy it. Its too rich for me.

search the forum for "annex.ax84.com" and you'll find links to the ones that I've made. Others came from noisevault.

I pointed out earlier that the 200$ upgrade is consistent with the Gold/Silver standalone packages. But I do agree that the whole VST thing seems to be overpriced for both sides. I didn't think it would be that "hard" to convert front-end recording processing to VST effect processing. But I guess thats just how it is.

Although I STILL think of Line 6 as saving a crapload of money. It would've costed me tens of thousands of dollars to do what Line 6 emulates (getting cabs, amps, setting up room, mics, etc).

:) But you never would have done that (spent tens of thousands of dollars)... You'd have bought a few great sounding amps and been out a few thousand dollars, tops. The only reasons you have bunches of amp models is (a) you can and (b) quantity making up for quality

don't get me wrong, I have POD 2.0 and xt live and I swear by them. But I do not see where in my workflow a vst would improve things...;)

A VST would *greatly* improve my workflow, for the way I do things. I don't know about the price, though. Seems high.

Chris-- thanks for the links, but they no seem workie. Only had'em up for a moment before your bandwidth limit was exceeded, maybe? ;)

I get a file doesn't exist warning when I attempted to DL. I'd really like to see how well this idea works...
