Kontakt imports Roland format.
It's a very nice string library.
At that price it's a steal.

I also only can recommend em. allthough you have to edit all of the sounds in kontakt basically (the roland sounds are either bad programmed or only rough imported by k2), but the samplematerial is great. 20 bucks definitely worth...

I just discoverd that the Kirk Hunter Virtuoso Series Strings ( I believe they are available in Giga & Emu Format & maybe Akai?), 3 cd's of excellent strings are selling now for only $49 (u.s. residents) or $59 (non u.s. residents).
Damn - that's ridiculously cheap, the demo's are great, reviews are outstanding.
Anyone any first hand experience with these?

....would have been my secret tip nr.2. concerning the conversion to k2 it is sure the same, you have to edit and reorganize the sounds totally (the giga-progs in k2 are a mess) I have emerald, too; but the virtuoso strings are in some aspects still a keeper: e.g. the sordino violins are unreached silky, they sound for my taste better than the sordinos in emerald.diverdee wrote:I just discoverd that the Kirk Hunter Virtuoso Series Strings ( I believe they are available in Giga & Emu Format & maybe Akai?), 3 cd's of excellent strings are selling now for only $49 (u.s. residents) or $59 (non u.s. residents).

I agree, but I hate the way K2 imports it. Practically had to go through all it's converted presets and correct a lot of them. (some of them don't even play, despite having the sample data and keymapping, because of some badly imported parameters) They're nice and lush sounding though.diverdee wrote:Kontakt imports Roland format.

I don't have kontakt - so i've never treid importing. have heard before from friends that it's a little ropey though, they tend to use esc or cdxtract.

Yes, I try and use ESC whenever I can (fantastic piece of kit), sadly it doesn't do Roland CDs at the moment.
Though I guess there's no harm in asking Wlodzimierz whether he might consider adding support for it though, it's a reasonably popular format for older sample CDs.

Are you talking about the KH or Ultimate Strings here?
(Just curious),

I agree with you. Been tempted lately to get Emerald. From the demo, they're the best strings (to my taste, anyway) that I've heard other than the Garritan strings (the string library, not GPO).rpc9943 wrote:Ultimate Strings
Speaking of KH i just bought KHSO Emerald... ;D

East West's Ultimate String is an older string library but has a very charming sound. It is very useful alone or when blended with the more current options. I personally have always been a fan of this product.
