Yea AQ, the gui is not the #1 priority I know, and I gotta agree I'm getting used to it, but the learning curve is not... fast. I was very intimated at first and only used the presets (such a shame considering it calls for a good tweak to disclose its power).

What's more important in the short-term is -imho- to optimise the synth, as I get frustrated not being able to layer more sounds at once. Regarding the demo, I couldn't possibly use more than one instance of PolyAnna obviously... I might have more luck with low-resource VSTis like Synth1 to decorate and add rhythm and/or background... but then again I wouldn't have so much CPU left, really :D ( oh btw I've just realized my evaluation period ends tonight :( )

I know you don't encourage patch distribution but, sorry AQ, I just couldn't resist, I did another Vangelis-like patch, that you can find here in eXT format (you need DaSample Glaceverb too). Don't forget to use the Modwheel.

I'm more and more amazed by the sound quality of PolyAnna, it's obvious it goes way beyond what has already been released (but at such a cost in resources !). This thing is alive ! Even more than Cs-80v (another one of my favorites).

Poly-Ana Beta 0.11 just went up. No new features but fixed the host/ASIO crashing when the GUI was opened while notes were playing bug, which I'm sure will be a big relief to everyone. And added some SCARY presets sent to us from MDK (aka KVR's own marvotron!).

MDK has really done some great work in exploring Poly-Ana's dirtier side -- and she can be a very dirty girl INDEED! He's also done some really impressive work with the mod mixers in creating some very unpredictable and organic sounds. Check 'em out!

I think I am about to be assimulated...resistance IS futile... I'm just on the verge of buying this wonderful VSTi! I keep comparing it with Vaz Mod. Apples and Oranges... Great work Admiral!

Over here poly-ana still performs unreliably and buggy. It usualy freaks out within minutes, producing distorted sound for some notes, but not for others.

But great sounds. Any estimates on how long the introductory price will stay in effect?

Yeah, I'm seeing something like that too where after playing for some time it starts using considerable power even while idling (no voices playing). So the "freak out" you describe is probably just the sound of CPU overload. Bypassing Poly-Ana then unbypassing it is a quick workaround, usually puts it back to normal behavior. Trying to track this one down... could be a denormal bug which are usually easy to fix, once found.

Introductory price is in effect until version 1.0 comes out. Another month or two or three, depending on how things go.

Big update coming for you, probably tomorrow. Have addressed many of the concerns some have had with the GUI. And even if your evaluation has expired you'll still be able to try out the the new GUI features, silently.

Thanks bleebsen. Can you tell me what host you're using? And if you can send me a patch that reliably causes "freak out", that'd be great too.

this is a nice sounding synth!!!

but there is no way with the current CPU drain that i could complete a demo track :o

good luck with your project!!

Yes, Admiral, Sir! ;)

I'm using Cubase SX3 on dual core Athlon64 (consequently I have just a slight doubt about your denormal theory).

It was the "clean clavinet" preset IIRC. Right now it produces a strange attack noise on every 3rd or 4th tone.

Now when I was trying to reproduce the bug I managed to totaly mute Poly-Ana...

I have the feeling it might have to do with switching presets (on cubase's preset selector) while notes are playing.

Why not? Can't render tracks to .wav as you complete them? (Or use track "Freeze" if your host provides the function.) Can't drop the quality to 1X during performance and raise it back up during rendering? Worst case: can't use another synth as a stand-in during performance then replace with Poly-Ana during rendering?

If you can hear it enough to like the sound, you should be able to make a demo track with it!

Mind sharing your machine spec with us? CPU? FSB speed? RAM speed?

Thanks!

Yes, that's a possibility too. Sounds like you're in a situation where one voice gets "sick". Can you try bypassing it when this happens and seeing if it gets better? Thanks for the Athalon info, yes, I believe they don't denormal like Pentiums do so that's a good clue.

By the way bleebsen, you don't need to call me Sir or salute me. Any more than you would these guys (who I outrank ;) ).

first off,

thanks for the reply :)

second, my sys speck! (AMD Sempron 1.67gig 166bus, 333fsb 1gig of ddr2100 ram)

your suggestions for completing a demo track would work in my current host (energyXT)

i will attempt to complete a demo track of some form as i am impressed with the sound of this vsti :D

PS, i was doing other things at the same time as posting my first post that you quoted, sorry if it sounded like a attack! that was not my intention!

i will pm you with what i manage to come up with, within the next 7 days :)

Awesome. That's the spirit! And thanks for the spec. How many voices can you play at once at the default 4X quality setting before it starts to break up?

sorry i am not at home in till tomorrow now, i will test this for you & post ASAP

Just wanted to say, the new presets added to the collection in version 0.11 are pretty sick. Really crazy sound effect type stuff. Nice work to all involved! I'm really enjoying watching this project mature. :)
