Since when? Mine sure doesn't. I mean, it has a slider that transmits aftertouch messages by default, but that's not what I meant.

I have a PCR-50 which has a sort-of bad key. I can press it lightly and even medium hard. It will register velocity up to 127. However, if I hit it very hard, it ignores my keypress. I disassembled the unit (even down to under the rubber contact strip), cleaned it and reassembled it. While it's slightly better, it isn't fixed. Though, it doesn't bother me that much.

I received an email from Edirol this morning. And they're gonna replace my PCR-30 with a fresh PCR-M30. So I'm rapt!

So my advise is send Edirol a very nice email outlining the problem, along with the Serial Number.

Got my PCR 50 'bout 20 months or so ago. About 5 months ago the thing just kinda died on me. The blue power light came on but that was it. Took the thing apart to see if there was anything obvious, loose wires etc. Nope. Put it back together and cried for a cupla days. and decided to save up for new controller. Hmm Korg Control 49 looks good. I then tried the Edirol again for about the thirty sixth time in 3 days just to be sure y'know. Anyway it sputtered back into life, cut out again a few more times and then finally stabilised and has been fine since. Had no key probs but this power f**k up really threw me at the time as it was then only 3 months past its warranty. Anyone else had this problem?

Beats me. I always assumed that the M-level update was what gave it the aftertouch. I assumed that any M-## had aftertouch. Since I've never really used aftertouch (and just saw it as a listed feature in the manual) it might not be what I was thinking and I'll have to have a peek. Pretty sure it's standard aftertouch, but I wouldn't bet my life on it without going home and peeking at the manual.

I've owned my PCR-30 for 2.5 years... never had a single problem with it... And no PCR has aftertouch (FYI)!

Like I said, I didn't ever try it, but there IS a whole 2-page section on assigning aftertouch, so I'm not just a nutbar.

Pages 60, 61 of my manual.

However, I think that it's as Peel mentioned-- you can send the messages, even with note-on, but they're not true aftertouch.

My PCR-80 is also dying key by key. I've taken it half way apart, but I'm not sure how to get the rubber contact strip out? Do I need to remove each and every key, or is there an easier way?

I had the edirol pcr-30, and it's keys died. Edirol seems to have a problem with that. I stripped the edirol for digital pots and sliders, saved up for a keystation pro-88. It was a nice change.

I had a PCR-30.
Now from it i have a Midi interface with an optional midi ctrl! (I build a custom case for the sliders and the pots)
After 2 years (end of warranty) starting from one key it has ceased to work with any key in about 1 month.
The worst midi key ctrl that i've bought.
Now i'm working with my old "DX21 Dinosaur" and i'm building a midibox ctrler.
So if i fail this time i know with who i must...

i'm considerin buying the pcr-M50 (the new model). am I asking for trouble? what alterntives in the same price range would you suggest?

the M series has a completely different keybed which is where all the problems in some early lots/models of the PCR series come from
I have a PCR 50 for over 3 years and haven't had any problems
so it's not every model of the PCR series

I would stay away from the Edirol keyboards unless you enjoy fixing things more than making music. As soon as I get this thing working properly, it's going on Ebay.

Let's just face it: Edirol keyboards are utter bullshit.
I have both some PCR-A30 and a PCR-M1. Hardware build quality: Worst I've ever seen. On the A30 a few keys are dying, on the M1 the middle C# is either putting out nothing or velocity 127. And let's not talk about falling off knobs and the likes...
After all, as much as I love(d) both of them for portability reasons, the build quality is just shite. Utter shite. I will chop their developers heads off, should I ever get the chance to meet them.

Ive got a pcr-50 too. But No problems. Except the sliders always fall off. Im missing 3 that are gone forever!

Some of the keys on my Edirol PCR-50 are dying!
