I've always wondered why Roland sold these under the Edirol name, but after reading this thread, I realize it was to protect Roland's reputation.

is the evolution mk-449c any better? it costs a little less and seems tohave same number of knobs/sliders

It seems like the M-Audio Axiom series is the most popular choice right now.

its also twice the price.
i've seen the CME-UF5 is the same price as the pcr-m50.

looks nice ...but frightening at the same time.

I didn't realize the price difference. I paid $285 for my PCR-80 and noticed the M-Audio Axiom 61 goes for $270. I guess Roland cut the prices on the PCR's.

Hey Bill, Edirol no longer supports the PCR keyboards. You must go through the parent company, Roland. If you email Roland, they will tell you they can't help you via email (that's what they told me anyway) and you must call their service department at the toll number 1-323-890-3700 x2289. I still haven't had a chance to call them yet, but let me know if you get anywhere.

Well looking at the emails I kept from then I used support@edirol.co.uk.

But looking at that CME-UF5, my PCR-M30 may just turning up on ebay as well.

That's great, I'll try the email first, thanks guys.

I guess there will be tons of threads on which is the best alternative...no matter what happens, I think I'll eventually have to buy a new keyboard. It won't be an Edirol, or an Oxygen cos that was cheap nasty rubbish too. Although at least that one had the courtesy to give up the ghost during the warranty.

That CME-UF5 looks nice, but also a bit deep to fit on my desk. Do Korg do decent ones for about £100- £150? Wouldn't mind a few more keys this time, and although I'm not a real keyboard player, it would be nice to get something better made and with a nicer, less plasticky feel when you play the keys.

Argh - on my PCR M1 the high C is now only throwing out velocity 127 as well. That's two of 25 keys by now.
I wonder when that utter piece of crap will not throw out anyhing else but velocity 127 anomre.

Seriously, I have mostly been defending Edirol for building, hm, stuff worth it's price. But my recent experiences have made me want to grab a chainsaw and chop some of their heads off.

My PCR-30 is still going fine. The only issue with key action I've had is that it overall takes more force than I'd like to achieve Velocity 127. But instead of pounding on the keys, I typically use a Velocity Scaler MIDI plugin to compensate. Perhaps that's why mine hasn't decided to go bad yet?

Though if/when it goes bad, I'm tempted to put all the guts into a new housing as an alternate controller!

Uh, I've got 3 keys crapping out on an old Roland PC200 MKII - just happened in the last few days. Clearly there's a conspiracy! That, and I've had it forever. Luckily, it's not my only controller.

My one went south too and it was out of guarantee. Although I replaced it with a PCR-M50 and it seems a bit more rugid due to the semi-weighted key mechanism.

Just to finish the story, I also emailed them, very politely, and the result is that they have replaced my 3 year old PCR-30 with a brand spanking new PCR-M30. In my eyes that is going way above and beyond the call of duty and I will love Edirol/Roland forever!

Some of the keys on my Edirol PCR-50 are dying!
