Post

They cost a lot mainly because Waves want to send a message that they are the absolute top of the heap plugin company, selling to industry professionals.

really if you buy something like the gold bundle or even the musicians bundles they are way cheaper per plug than most everyone else.

They cost a lot because people are willing to pay that much. I'm sure the quality of their software is high, but so are a lot of other developers, but Waves was one of the first, and they've managed to get a foot up on market share.

Waves also seems to want you to go for their bundles over individual plugins, which are a better deal, but still realy expensive. Look at the Mercury bundle they just announced at AES. MSRP is $7,500 for native, but you get 91 plugins in that bundle. That's an average of $82 per plugin, which still isn't cheap, but isn't outrageous. I could see how someone might think that getting all that and only having to deal with a single vendor would be beneficial.

Personally I've always been a mix and match type of person, getting in too deep with a single vendor sounds like a dangerous policy to me.

i also tried to find what is the best compressor and multiband compressor

if i look at the prices
"seems like waves are the best"

i wish to know if they are the best.

their plugins have lots of delays, i believe these delays made on purpose to analyze the sound before it process it. however this kinda annoying and im not sure i hear any diference..

more than that, the presets are pretty cheap and ALMOST NO PRESETS, i believe that those kind of prices should present very high presets by the owners for creativity and to see what this plugin worth.

A summary of what is to follow:

'Waves Suck'

'Most people who say Waves sucks have never worked in high end studios. Theres a reason that they are what the Big Boys use'.

'Yeah, because they are expensive and people buy into the "if it costs more it must be better mentality" And I have all kinds of pro projects I am working on!'

'So You are saying that all of those industry pros are dupes? Gimme a break! If you are so much smarter, why aren't you working in a high end studio? Oh right, all of those 'pro projects' you are working on. '

'High end studios spend other peoples money. If those guys had to shell out from their own pockets it would be a different story. Voxengo and Kjaerhus are every bit as good as Waves, better in fact, with much better support. And f**k you!'

'Well, you get what you pay for. You can either use what the pros use or what a bunch of internet forum geeks tell you to use'

Etc, etc, etc,

Did I miss anything?

The tidy summary skits thrown in for comic relief.

The openly hostile name calling, with little actual mention of Waves.

Some engineer-type coming in and reducing all human perception to meaningless sampling theorem-related gibberish in a series of mostly half-truths, and then getting upset that the others can't keep up.

The off topic sideshow about kittens, warez, fish, dogs, handbags, the poor nations/people of the world and what it's like to work in big commercial studios.

But other than that, spot on.

Although you did say "Etc, etc, etc," so my points are mostly filling in the blanks you set before me.

----A lot of it has to do with advertising. Magazine ads cost a lot, well, full page color ads in multiple magazines, month after month, yeah. Boxed versions, in stores, that costs another 6 figures or so. You do pay for the name, and the convenience factor as was mentioned/hinted at above. Are they the "best" ? Well, that's up to you. ANY program, any, thing, for that matter, can be argued to death. And the same with pricing. Waves must not suck, or they wouldn't still be around, but are they the best ? Well, try the demo, and you tell us eh.

Damn, I forgot to add that one. -1 for me.

I dont use waves because of WUP (except SSL collection)
But its not that expensive as it seems. I just checked the Renaissance Maxx Street price and its 370$ for 9 plugins.

Waves were the standard, around 1998 when there wasn't much alternative.

There are free plugins that do the same thing now.
