For those experienceing the 'null presets' problem in EQ22, I have put up am fxb of the factory presets here. So long as your host can deal with fxb, you should be fine :)

mucoder wrote:Hi KFW,
I agree the default settings (chromatic scale, octaves space) do not lead to very useful chords. There is a very easy way out though, depending what you want to do.

1. if you like tonespace to generate chords for you, please choose another value for SPACE and another for SCALE. A good one is space M2-P4 (2:5) and scale BLUES PENTATONIC. Be sure CH ASSIST is set to FIT DYAD, TRIAD or TETRACHORD TO SPACE. There is a small video on http://www.mucoder.net/tonespace that shows exactly how this looks like. Other good spaces are Balzano (3:4) and Longuet-Higgins (4:7). Be sure to avoid the chromatic space though for this purpose.

2. if you'd rather like to hand-select the chord, you have to set CH ASSIST to MANUAL. You can then choose the chord using the mouse wheel while you play, and tonespace will never reset it.

Note also that the selection of chords is largely determined by the setting of the SPACE parameter. The M2-P4 (2:5) space is quite dark-sounding (lots of suspensions), whereas the Balzano and Longuet-Higgins spaces are more cheerful and classic-sounding. Another thing, tonespace does not follow classic rules for chord progressions, but rather uses an experimental algorithm based on proximity of tone cells within the spaces. Whether the outcome of this sounds ugly or interesting, is up to each user to decide. I can only advise to experiment a bit with various spaces until you maybe find one that suits your taste and music style.

In any case this is good feedback and I will consider other default settings for a future version. And hope you might give it a second try...
This is actually a good explanation. I tried again and it works!!

Remember ( and to keep it simple :hihi: ):

1. When you want to scroll through the chords at the default Chromatic scale setting, put CHORD Assist on MANUAL (!)

2. When you have selected some more esoteric scale put the CHORD Assist on 'fit triad to space' or something and let Tonespace select the spicey chords for you - automatically!

The MANUAL-thingy is very important otherwise the CHORD setting make no sense. (Mucoder might 'grey out' the Chord setting in a future update when 'Manual' is selected)
With the Chromatic scale setting Tonespace only selects the most of obvious of Chords and this is what I (and probably KFW) regarded as the particular 'resetting-behaviour'

I think Tonespace deserves another try before this DC ends!

Okke, thanks for your very courteous reply!

I have put on my list that I should provide some playable presets out of the box and need to make the parameters a bit more intuitive. Plus add a tutorial & manual for reference. Hope to provide you with an update soon.

Thanks,
mucoder. :tu:

OK, I was using Fire quite extensively last night, and my P3 1Ghz laptop was experiencing a bad denormal problem.. I was using it in Podium, running a piano part thru it. The CPU would shoot upto 85-100% when the piano stopped playing; when I bypassed the plug, or the piano was playing, CPU returned to normal.
In the end I had to bounce/freeze to be able to use it, making changes and rebouncing.

I like it, but there's definately a problem there for my poor laptop!

Yes that is a bug I'm aware of. Can't solve that before the contest is ended due to limitations in SynthMaker.

I'm however updating the whole SANE FM project; exe and vst dll to feature:

* At least 36 new patches
* Working help button.
* Preset manager
* Full automation.

VISTA users:

is winhlp32 still in your windows directory? If not then tell me what program is used to show help files on VISTA?

full automation!!!??

mmmm, i would like that.... ive gotten *great* noises out of your synth, but with no way to capture them, other than manual recording!

thanks!

Hm, I haven't seen that problem myself. Do you get this with all hosts? Have you hooked the preset manager up in the normal manner? Feel free to send the schematic over here and I'll have a look.

Cheers!

MST VS-1000 completely freezes Live 5 again. I'm going to have to remove it, sorry. Every time I was moving the waveform xy there was stutter and max cpu spikes.

Question 1: how do I get Grizzly to remember what folder my samples are in? They're not in the My Documents folder, and they're not in my VST folder under Grizzly.

Item 2: the grizzly font looks really small because it IS really small, not because software doesn't use it. On my 1152x864 screen, it's little but readable, but I can see where it would be too small for others.

Here's microsoft's font, SimSynth 2.7 (another app with a way-too-small font, designed for 800x600), and Grizzly's font. Take a look yourself.

Possibly I'm lazy, but I'm going to post this before I restart windows without the grizzly font to see what the software does at different screen resolutions.
Caution: random sig lines may cause injury or death.

Q1: You can use any folder for samples, it will just write it as D:\Samples\Drums\BD1.wav or whatever. However if you place your samples in the Grizzly\Samples folder it will shorten the path and make it easy for you to share sample packs with other users which was our original plan. Then again, I dunno if there are any other users, heh.. been kinda silent around here about the plugin.

Q2: Yes, it IS really small. And I've been thinking about increasing it in size by two pixels which means I have to repixel it. But that'll take some time and I'll have to redesign the GUI slightly to fit the new font.

I've been thinking about doing some tabbed stuff or so as well though to decrease the GUI size, but there are some small bugs that need fixing first and I want to improve cpu and memory usage some more. My hands are kind of tied until the competition is over though since I want to do some big changes which would be cheating I guess.

Hi Vonbrucken, my apologies, there havn't been any updates since I added the no-sidechain version.. [excuse]I've been snowed under at work and at the same time doing a crash-course in Chinese :shock: [/excuse] So I havn't really had the time to dedicate to the DC, I'm quite gutted.. Some folk seem to be quite enjoying the plugin though so I definately wont be forgetting about this once the challenge is over. Any further updates I'll announce through the effects section so keep your eyes peeled.
