Going to do the big reformat tonight, so I figured I would move to a nice minimalist setup. Just a few of my favorite software synths, a small amount of really useful samples and a collection of really solid core effects.
For the effects, I just want something that works for EQ and compression duties in a very straightforward way. I don't need an EQ or compressor that colors the sound or adds saturation on every track. In fact, I'm looking for the opposite.
I do know of a small number of freeware compressors (Buzzcomp, Blockfish, etc...) but they really noticably color the sound. I have posihfopit, but I could always use more EQ plugins, and having a vanilla one that sounds clean is always nice.
Oh, one other thing. Apparently, my comp won't run synthmaker plugins for some reason, so suggesting EQ and Compressors made inside that enviroment is, unfortunately, not gonna be an option.

For a non-coloring eq you want Plpareq, the plpareq is expensive but the 3 band is only $150. Another eq that's pretty clean when set right is voxengo's harmonieq, it has several modes i'm sure most will find usefull. These i believe are what your looking for, And are the cleanest sounding i've heard.
The Uad-1 Precision eq is one of the most powerfullest out here i believe, it is very precise and allows for extreme boosting, and adds very little artifacts in the process.
Strangely my most transparent compressor is my old version of audiotrack by waves (a company i usually don't promote), Uad's La2a is pretty clean sounding but makes things a little richer as well. You may wanna check out Voxengo's Marquis and Voxengo's polysquasher too.
