SciFiArtMan wrote:As for the SimluAnalog Guitar Suite, maybe it's the way Cakewalk Sonar 5PE installs the thing, but the JCM900 gives off a strange unbalanced stereo effect (grind (B channel) on the left, and clean (A channel) on the right - or something like that) this makes it useless to me. I fiddled with it and can't seem to overcome this situation.
Betabugs Moneo will cure this problem.
You're right that Moneo does look like it would let me control the two channels better, or even make them mono. But why is no one else complaining of this problem (dry one side, wet on the other) with SimulAnalog G-Suite?
No - it's a very well known problem - if you don't want to use Moneo, you can also wrap Simulanalog plugins in Xlutop Chainer.

its not a problem at all.
guitarsuite plugins simply designed to work in mono. so if you set them on stereo tracks, they will just process the left channel.
i use stereotools vst

Or in many hosts, it will just process in mono. Was that already covered in earlier pages? ;)

Right - for me it is just a minor annoyance.

Here's a brief clip of some old familar licks displaying the kind of tone I'm pretty happy with through FreeAmp2 - not perfect, but very acceptable. A good example of the kind of stereo imaging I'm seeking, as well.

EDIT - removed other link (same clip) as the file sharer was slow and sloppy!

SciFiArtMan wrote:Yes, a combination of factors helps me get the sound I like in FreeAmp2. About 90% of the tone comes from the amp section (Amp=Harmon2, Cab=2x12 Lt.Brown mic about center, closed back, Drive=11, Chub=2, Variac=7, post EQ at middlish settings). Then I add the Overdrive (Crank w/Drive and Tone maxed). That's a good tone for me! Then sometimes I add a little Chorus for spacializing and it's pretty damned sweet for my needs. So maybe one of the Helian amp sims would be good for me.

Drive 5 for whatever reason doesn't get that close. The overdrive sound is loose and buzzy sounding and doesn't "play" well, especially in chuncky chord situations. True maybe if I added cab sims and and mic sims it would get there. It's not awful, just lacks "the sound". Plus it's noisy as hell when I get anywhere near the FreeAmp2 tone. But the CPU usage is very good.

And to be honest the more I play with FreeAmp2 the more I like it. So it wouldn't be the end of the world if I just had to deal with the huge CPU chunk it demands (23-30% of my 2.53ghz, 1280mb ram). But adding 10 or so VSTed tracks on top of that single track won't be a walk in the park.
Cool! Glad you are enjoying FreeAmp2 :) If you don't mind could you send me a copy of the .fxp of the preset you mention above, make sure you .zip it or my email will not let me DL the file. Would help me to look inside FreeAmp2 to see what I did you are liking? For FreeAmp3 I want to make different versions! Some will lack some features to conserve CPU, plus there will be the full version with FX and guitsyn.

BTW! listened to the first clip in the prior post :) Sound cool.

Thanks

The problem of the analogsuite with Sonar, for some reason the plugin works in stereo in sonar, the adapter of sonar not recognize very well the simulanalog, you have to use directxier or other adapter.

E-mailed! I like this tone quite a bit. Of course it's just one of many sounds I've found in FreeAmp2 that are very playable and meet my metallic needs. I'm in no way a real Metalhead (not that there's anything wrong with that!), but I wanted a really nasty, but playable tone to write a metal type song for my 10 year old son to sing on, and play guitar on someday, maybe. He's always showing-off my songs and playing and I thought how cool it might be if he had a song or two of his own to flash around to his pals (MY dad never did this for ME!) Thanks for the support and great plugins!

Wow, I'd never have guessed this could have come from a software if it hadn't been posted on Kvr.

Man, me too! All my folks ever gave me was a hard time about how it's all a flash in the pan and you'll never make a living from it (which I did very nicely, too!) Even after I started playing with many Grammy-winning and legendary artists they still came on with the "It'll never last" crap! Short of appearing on The Tonight WITH Johnny Carson and receiving a handwriiten note from God my musical endeavors were never going to be enough - they were determined to not give an ounce of support. And they were generally wonderful and intelligent people, but music was just not a viable career path for anyone in our family... whatever. Now they brag about what I accomplished - they didn't brag back THEN!

Thanks again Fretted, for all the cool plugins and sounds. And if you ever get that FreeAmp2/3 CPU usage sliced in half be sure and tell the world (and especially ME!) :)

Thanks Boulotaur. FreeAmp2 is capable of all sorts of really good buzz tones, can probably do other cool softer sounds too, just haven't been there. Hopefully FreeAmp3 will be even more versatile (and a bit easier on the CPU cycles too). Isn't it just amazing all the killer tones these plugins can help produce!!!

Hey FrettedSynth, is there a PayPal donation slot for your creations?

Hello

Sounds about the same as my parents, "You will end up broke and become a drug adict trying to make it in music"
Bless you for keeping on, and making something of it  Me! I havent even played the local clubs since 1981, but the good for the soul part of music has kept me playing for the last 25 years in back rooms and basements. Now in my mid 40's I love it even more :)
No! I have not created a donation link, part of the reason I give this stuff away is to help the poor dude who is in the same spot I was 30 years ago! No money but a huge urge to create music. Hopefull someday I will be able to make some type of a living from it, but if that don't come? I will rest with the knowlage that I may have helped someone?

And Yes I'm trying to get the CPU use down  Freeamp v1 used about 60% more CPU then FreeAmp2, Hope to bring v3 down even further

Peace
