Hi
Just a silly wondering question : if you consider Ritual as the "pressure next generation" (among more things), is it possible to make a 1:1 comparison ? I browsed through the presets, and didn't really found the same sound... I think i will take a little time to check if i can get similar sounds from Ritual, but it wasn't obvious from my first impression ;)

I'd say that's more of an issue with the presets.. since I stink at making them, and Ritual 1.0 doesn't have presets from my sound designer in it yet.

As far as a 1:1 comparison goes.. I'll speak to the design intentions:

Pressure was designed to be a VA that strived to be good for basses, basslines, and tones frequently used in drum-n-bass, etc. Something akin to Junglist or Hydra. It achieved this to a fair degree, based on the skills I had at the time (late 2003 i believe i started it).

Ritual now takes all of those goals 1 step further. Knowing more about sound design now than I did in 2003, I set out to create a NEW synth design from the ground up to achieve the same types of sounds, but approached it completely differently. I knew i wanted a wamrmer sound, so I designed the cascade filter. I knew i wanted more harmonics in the source oscillator, so i designed a custom super-saw. I knew i liked the modulation options in Pressure, but wanted even MORE, so I made the modulation matrix. Also, i noticed that Pressure had things in it that were almost completely useless for making basses, like a Band Pass filter option. So, opting for simplicity, those were not put into Ritual.

Overall i'm VERY happy with the sounds possible with Ritual, but you need to design sounds with it. Tweakbench plugins will NEVER be full of presets that you can just drop in your songs.. i intentionally want you all to design your OWN sounds.. at most, i'd want the presets to just be a few starting points, not a palette of sounds.
