I bought CSR and I already have Cubase SX and the dongle. When I bought CSR I asked specifically how to install CSR, so I would not have the problem that I'm now having.

I was told to take out the Cubase dongle and install the CSR software with no dongles on the computer. (I did that)

I was told to put both dongles back in. (I did that)

Then open Cubase and then open CSR and then I would be able to register my copy of CSR. (When opening Cubase I got an error and then it finally opened, but I'm unable to open CSR. In my VST plug-in information it says that CSR is "unloadable".)

So, how can I register a product that I cannot open? And where do I go from here? Anybody have some suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul

I guess you have already seen this but i installed this way without a problem. Just thought I would post it in case it is of help. Good luck.

1) Start our plug-in installer.
2) Be sure the key is NOT inserted.
3) The Syncrosoft installer is automatically started by our installer.
4) When Syncrosoft installation is finished, and our installer asks for
it, connect the key.
5) Complete the installation.
Please read the onscreen instructions carefully! The installer will show an
explanation dialog box every time the key must be disconnected or con-
nected.

(1) Start our plug-in installer.)
Which installer are you referring to?
Yes...when I installed the CSR it first installed the Syncrosoft, but I was told to skip that and don't deal with it until I had already installed CSR and then launched Cubase.

Are you saying that the CSR dongle should have been installed prior to launching Cubase and that in effect would have set the CSR dongle up correctly? I was under the impression...do not deal with the dongle until you open up CSR from within Cubase. (is that incorrect?)

The CSR installer

Told by who? I think you are supposed to do exactly what the installer instructs you to do, step by step.

I was told by someone at eSoundz where I purchased CSR. They screwed up the delivery and I called about the delivery issue and he talked me through the process of the install. (Erroneously, so he told me, "just do as I tell you and you'll be fine.")

That part really doesn't matter now. He screwed up and my only interest now, is to get it right.

I've uninstalled CSR, but I've left the LCC on the drive. Would you suggest that I also delete the LCC and do a complete reinstall of CSR and the LCC. (with no dongles in)

When the LCC asks me for the dongle, I should just put the CSR dongle into the USB.

After that is completed and I'm ready to launch Cubase and register the CSR that's when I should put the Cubase and the CSR dongles in and then open CSR in Cubase and then register CSR?

By the way I thank you for your help and assistance. I feel as if I owe you a beer or martini or maybe both.

Thanks,

I strongly reccomend getting in touch with IK Multimedia tech support. Don't try to play around with the Synchrosoft driver or the CSR USB key until you get in touch with them. Make sure you describe to them exactly what you did, and they should be able to fix you up.

Let us know how it goes. :-)

I already contacted (via email) IK Multimedia. Not sure how long it will take for them to get back to me. Are they pretty responsive?

I think that I'll do as you say and not go any further. I do have Cubase and it still works fine. I really don't want to make a problem into a "horrific nightmare". I'll just sit tight and thanks for the advice from both of you, "morelia" and "Kim".

I'll get back and let you know how I've made out. I do wish that people would not give out advice unless they're absolutely certain, that what they're saying is correct. Being a teacher of music myself...if I get asked a question about music and I don't know the answer...I will say, "I don't the answer." I never have and never will just make up something, so it appears that I know what I'm talking about. My ego is not that fragile. I don't have to know everything about everything.

Sorry, I guess now that I'm just going to sit tight...I'm left with my musings about how funny people can be sometimes. "Funny", really isn't the word that I feel, but again I want a solution...ranting and raving about someone's bad advice will get me nowhere's.

I'll get back after I hear from IK Multimedia.

That's OK

I guess I should shut up now that the official word has been spoken. I don't want to lead you astray, but I had no problem following the 5 step program. I wasn't giving advice, so much as stating what I did to get it working and the 5 steps are straight out of the CSR manual so . IK are pretty quick as a rule but it is the weekend. A few days max for a reply in my experience.

I'm quite sure that that is where the error occurred. When the Synchrosoft was asking for me to put in the dongle...I did not. I was told to wait until I was ready to launch Cubase then I should insert the 2 dongles.

In that regard you are correct and I was going on incorrect information and figured that I would wait until I got into Cubase and then launched CSR to get the dongle set-up.

You know...now that I'm on the other side of this mini-problem, I recall now that when I did Cubase I did have to do the dongle as the LCC had popped up on the screen. What can I say...that was about 3-4 years ago. I guess that when I upgrade my Cubase SX3 to Cubase 4, I should have this whole process down like a champ. The only thing that scares me is that 3-4 years from now when I have to do it again...I'm sure that I will have forgotten all about 10/27/06 and I'll be back at this crazy place again. I think that they call that, "deja vu".

Again, thanks for all the help and I'll let you know how I make out after IK Multimedia fixes my mistake.

To Kim & morelia,

All is well. I went and did something that I should not have done, but it's worked out perfectly.

I uninstalled the CSR program, but left the Syncrosoft intakt. I then reinstalled the CSR program and when I was asked to put the dongle in (which is what you had said, "Morelia", but again I was told, "do not put it in until you are inside of Cubase.") however I did put the dongle in when Syncrosoft asked and then put the Cubase dongle in and then opened Cubase.

I had to coax cubase into allowing me to add an FX Track with CSR loaded, but went through some check boxes in the plug-in information menu...the next thing I knew I was at the IK Multimedia registration screen.

It's registered digital ID and all and I really thank both of you for your assistance. I know, I know Kim that I should not have tried to re-install, but I just had that gut feeling that nothing had happened to my CSR dongle, because I didn't insert it when it asked me to.

Well the problem is solved. I do have one more question regarding any updates on CSR. After getting the plug registered I see that I'm on version 1.0 6A27 and when I went to the IK site to look for the update they had a version that aparantely came out 10/4/06, but it's labeled as version 1.0. My question is...do I update to this version or stay with the one I've just installed. Obviously I don't know if I have any problems with the one I've just installed as I haven't even used it yet. Just want to know if the latest driver updates are the best.

I thank both of you again for coming to my aid.

That's a question I would like an answer to as well.

I would have suggested trying to reinstall just as you did. But when dealing with dongles and such I just didn't want to bear responsibility for a FUBAR situation. Glad it worked out for you. :)
