Damn, you guyz are fast !
There's an issue with the end of the video and some bugs on the website... Should be fixed in the next 24 ;-)

Post

But where the hell is ohmicide ! :x

:hihi:

edit : just watched it, funny and informatiive as the previous one... nice job.

Post

Ohmicide is on its way. We had some bad luck with the 3D artist / mac dev wounding himself and then getting married (no correlation) which put us a bit later thant wanted on the schedule. We're aiming at december thus. I'll detail that soon on the blog...

There is an issue at the mo with the flash : submissions doesn't show. Thus there are some allready. We'll fix that by tomorrow (hopefully)

Post

Bravo, Ohmies! I love these tutorials. they're almost "as much fun as kicking other people's children" HI-larious.

funny video.
Predatohm seems quite nice, but please don't tell me it converts stereo to mono before any processing? It seems to kill the stereo signal i'm fedding it?

Actually it does. First thing is that it makes it mono, then you can use the stereo width to give it a bit space (stereo output, still). Considering typical input for Predatohm are guitars, bass or loops - and that most of those are mono anyway - and adding to that that most HW distortion are mono too it was a pretty rational design choice to us. The thing is that if the plug doesn't mono it for you, it's pretty painful on a lot of hosts to do it by yourself. Which is a pity as mixwise it's generally better in mono (in the precise context of searching a massive sound).

While designing Predatohm we wanted ppl to insert it in their mix and get instantly rewarded with phat sounds that are generally difficult to get when you're not an expert (and even when you are). Forcing mono was a deliberate step in that direction and most of time it does the job. But we ackowledge that it can be frustrating, especially as Predatohm happen to be used for more things than expected first. That's why Ohmicide:Melohman will work with stereo. It will not include the stereo expander thus but instead let you pan each band.

This is typical of the difference of the two plugs. Predatohm will by default give you something close to what you expect from the usual amp sim. Ohmicide:Melohman will come with topmodern distortions from the digital era :P

Are you talking about the Super Stereo button? It changes my stereo image, I'd like to keep it as it is. The Super Stereo knob creates Stereo Output but not based on the stereo sound i was feeding it :(

Indeed. Super stereo is a stereo enlarger, understand that it creates a side delay between left and right output. Now what it also does is that it reverses the phase of one of the two channel. This is a controversial operation as it can damages the mix if this one is converted to mono (something that fortunately rarely happen nowadays). In general it can makes the mix more sensible to where the speakers are... The point is that with one side inversion you can have phase cancelation occuring so in a bad scenario the perceptual volume of the track can fluctuate to where you are.

Still we wanted to have it. Why ? The key point is that as long as you control where the music is played it's a wonderful (and unique!) tool. Phase reverse heps to get *way* more perceptual loudness for the same peak which is great in itself and improve the stereo enlargement.

So if for instance you use predatohm live with a laptop it's great in a gig room. Or if you just play your guitar @ home on your speakers.... Actually even in a mix the perceptual gain generally largely makes it up for the sligh inconsistency, especially if the width isn't close to null. I also like how stereo witdh gives space to a sound without all the fuss of a reverb (CPU usage and mud added to the mix)...

Predatohm is aimed at creating leads or massive sounds that will stand front in the mix. The mono input / stereo processing is all about that !
