Hello, I have been reading and reading and I am really confused on which bass guitar sample/vst would be best for me. I cannot afford to buy everyone and pick the best. My music style would lean more towards a pop/rock sound like Breaking Benjamin/Hoobastank to even a more melow sound like The Fray.. by listening to the demos for Trilogy/Majestic/Hardcore Bass/Scarbee etcc., I cant really tell what works!! I honestly do not have any use for a fretless bass or even bass synths, so that is not a issue for me. I am sorry if this has been posted, but the only thing I find is about which sounds best!!

Just start out with a soundfont, theres good ones on http://hammersound.net/ and you can use the free sfz to play them.

I agree that testing the Soundfonts yourself is the best way to find an appropriate natural-sounding bass guitar, in a soundfont. The bands you list probably use Fender Jazz or Precision (AKA J-bass and P-bass) type bass guitars, or something similar. You can get similar aounds on synths like SYNTH1, but you'll need to be clever and know the program pretty well, but it's possible and really easy and flexible if you can swing this little stunt. But Hammersound (and similar sites - like Soundfont.it have many good sounding FREE bass guitar tones to choose from. Google "free bass guitar soundfonts" and then try 'em all to see what fits best!
