The comfort of knowing it has already passed street cred, and been used by top professional beatmakers. :hihi: :help:
If your like me, and hang out at hiphop forums, you'll see quotes similar to this one below.

"So yeah the features look good, but who uses it?"

"I can always tell wich beats are made in fl, step up you game, and get an mpc"

Is it just me, or do my fellow hiphop producers have more tunnel vision than many other genres concerning what to use, and how it must be done?

Post

Doesnt really seem like a different mentality in any other genre/environment. You see that about fruity in trance and DnB too

Post

I don't really go to DnB, and trance forums, but I see less of that additude here, and this seems like a melting pot of musicians.

First of all, the average age in hip hop forums is lower than here.

Then, hip hop beats are mostly pattern-based, with little or no instrument playing&recording. So, you could say it's somewhat easier to make hip hop beats. That means more people (which means also more dumb people) try to make them.
It's, however, apparently, NOT that easy to make good quality hip hop beats. Just like with any other genre.
The difference is that, for example with rock music, you have to learn an instrument ecc., you can't just download FL and do something in 5 minutes like with hip hop beats.

Then, it's a fact that some of the best beatmakers use MPCs or similar HW samplers. Why? IMHO, because they (the beatmakers) are old and used to that. And some others use that because their idols used that. Tradition. Just like with Pro tools and Macs.

Take a look at this video of the Heatmakers, for example:

Did the guy really need a MPC, a Mac and Pro tools for that beat? He could've made that with FL and saved a few thousand $.
Maybe spending more is also a proof of dedication. IMHO, it's mostly ignorance, tho. Still, the Heatmakers made some of the best beats ever, and they get much props for that.

you should spend more time at other forums, try protools, Logic, try buzz, .... as a matter of fact just keep trying forums and sooner or later it'll sink in

LOL! WTF?!

OK: Dumb people, maybe a bad word... I mean people that say "step up you game, and get an mpc". That's ignorant talking. And with more people partecipating in WHATEVER (in this case: beatmaking) you get a bigger absolute nubmer of people saying ignorant stuff.

When was race brought up or even implied here?
How are people just starting out dumb.... if that is the case someone starting out on drum, guitar, flute, ukulele is dumb also
I can vouch for guitar players and drummers :hihi:

It has been said in this thread. Musicians are often ignorant in general.

This thread deserves a two-thumbs up. :thu: :thu:

This is why I'm glad I make shit. It doesn't matter what you use, because it won't ever sound any better than a swarm of flies flying around a steaming dung pile.

You probably nailed that one on the head. Nobody would use a h/w sampler for studio use nowadays unless it was just because they were used to it. There's no audio benefit, and they lag behind in terms of features compared to the best of today's s/w samplers. And the s/w is cheaper and has multiple times the amount of sampler RAM. All that talk about MPCs "sounding" different is just myth. A good soundcard has better specs.

It seems like MPCs have turned into hiphop bling. I'm surprised they don't wear them on big gold and diamond encrusted chains around their necks yet. :hihi: At least it'd hide their dicks when their pants fall down.
