Hi Folks,

I'm not one to start threads like this, but I finally had time today to put the Air EQ demo through its paces, and I have to say I'm very impressed with it. I really like the concept of the whole thing. Sound is excellent, definitely up to par with the other EQs I own...but the organizational concept of the whole thing is just fantastic. I really like the way you can name frequency bands to call them "Body", and other character names...really makes the mixing process much more artistic.

Nice job Eliosound. Trying to stay away from dongle-bound purchases these days, but I'm really falling in love with this EQ.

I like it as well. I tried it on some dirty electric guitars and it was kinda great, brought them to life in a really nice way. But...alas...I side-by-sided it with my Equim and after putting it through its paces it didn't really offer anything better, and on narrow Qs it was rather worse, as it tends to ring a bit. The one thing it does really nicely is low pass, but I can't see purchasing it just for that, even with the group buy.

Nice piece of coding, though.

Interesting, I did the same (and i love my Eqium!) and my impression was that AirEQ is way more musical/artistic to handle than Eqium, which is a good thing because with Eqium I feel relying too much on the graphical display. The Air gain knob does a great job which I couldn't reproduce in Equim easily, the low frequency cut off is smoooooth, which took me (again) a while to recreate the same smoothness in Eqium using 2 LP with different Q settings - its possible to do this all with Eqium with some time.

Then there is the thing about dramatic changes, where a high Q is needed (for e.g. i love Eqiums Hipass with Q adjustment) - AirEQ can't do that.

In future, i will use AirEQ (Butter) to define sound character and Eqium (Knife) for dramatic changes - that's how I see those tools. Eqium is also fantastic for experimental, weird filter constructions which is another interesting approach.

BTW, AirEQ is my first product ever using a dongle, and i'm most likely the biggest dongle hater around.

These are exactly my feelings on both topics. I think we're up to about 35% off now at the Group Buy so that worked out nicely too!

Funny isn't it - I think Air Eq seems to have done more to change people's minds on dongles - or at the very least to make an exception - than any other plugin I know of.

Syncrosoft should be paying Fabrice for creating the breakthrough app for their platform :)

Ha ha! Totally. Mind you, I think many have taken a bullet for Amplitube too...

Glad you liked it, ToTc! I was lucky to discover this one early, and I'm so pleased the community's warming up to it! With the dongle and the saturated market, I was a little concerned. But I agree: its interface is one of the most unique things about it, and I think it's one of those rare things that lives up to its own hype; it influences you to work in a "musical" way! :D

So you like the interface better. It's a nice change of pace, I agree, though Equim's is extremely smooth as well. I do think the user configurability of the Air interface is really great.

But are you telling me the ringing doesn't bother you? That you're just not going to use the Air on narrow Q? This is a nagging problem for me. But to each his or her own, of course.

Can you possibly post a short clip of the ringing you're talking about? When I hear the term "ringing" with EQs it's generally to describe the pre-ring that happens with linear phase EQs, so I gather this is different...

Pretty much every EQ has a certain resonant ringing going on at narrow Qs to my ears, AirEQ didn't seem any worse than other EQs I've used in that regard... I find myself mostly using tight Qs to cut anyway, very rarely to boost, which would minimise the effect it seems, so maybe I'm not hearing it at all with this EQ...

Very glad I got in on the group buy though, I'm yet another dongle objector who's been brought over to the other side :)

Hey Mustgroove.

I was thinking the Equim and the Air were sonically pretty close a couple nights ago, when I was listening on cans, but now I've moved into a better listening environment and I believe I'm pulling back from that opinion. I have a wide boost on an old demo, around 3.2k, and I'm finding that the Air is giving me much better transient response. A clearer sound, more room sound, etc. I'm even slanting the settings in favor of the Equim and the Air just seems to be more 3D.

Hmmmm....maybe another victim of the group buy is taking form here....

Heh, it's way easier: make a good product, be honest and low-hype your thing, people will swallow the dongle thing too
This Plug In KILLS Fascists

Well, I just joined the group buy. :hihi:

The only thing that came close to handling the transients as well was the Waves SSL, and at that level of quality they were just different flavors. I agree with Mustgroove about the ringing, at the extreme settings I was using to test, even the Waves SSL showed some unpleasantness, and in fact, at that particular setting on those particular tracks, the Air did a better job.

It's never going to be this low a price again, as they've stated this is going to be the only group buy, so I thought I'd pony up the loot. The only alternative would be to use the demo and laboriously reset the settings every time I come back to a session. Errrr...not worth it. :D

Count me among the converted.

Welcome to the next level Brother, glad you could make it... :harp:
It looks like individual L/R/M/S control is coming too!

I'm in!
(CONSIDER THIS A REMINDER THAT THIS IS THE LAST DAY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GROUP BUY!)

I tried the Waves SSL and whilst it imparts a rather nice SSL style colouration to the sound, it can't match the AirEQ for top end smoothness. I see the Waves SSL eq's as more of a fizzy brutal exciter style eq and the AirEQ a purer eq (but without sounding sterile)

Having a syncrosoft dongle already because of Cubase, the dongle isn't an issue for me (as long as the full license installation goes smoothly!, fingers crossed it doesn't screw up my cubase key)

hey guys, today is the last day of the group buy of aireq!!!!
at a discount of 40% now! extrem coolness! :-)
