Here is my first ever request for a very special compressor plugin.

Some times when I'm mixing, I have very restricted time schedules - the kind of schedules that won't allow me to rely exclusively on the auditory clues. In times like this I need as much pre-visualization as possible. So, I'd like a compressor plug-in that can give me waveform preview before and after compression. Moreover, I would like it to be able to understand volume curves automation. Let's say this compressor should have two windows where the left window would represent just a portion of the uncompressed view of an audio signal and the right window would have a target view of the same signal where I can determine with volume curves how I want compressor to impact the signal. Then I'd like this compressor to dynamically approximate this volume curve to the rest of the track.

This kind of compressor would be really useful in a situation where you don't have enough time to work in the traditional ways. Secretly, I hope that Voxengo or somebody else would consider creation of such compressor.

You could try sticking s(M)exoscope before and after your compressor in the signal chain.

Regarding the visualization, GVST's GComp1&2 have really good waveform views:

Hi shaman,

First, thanks for your suggestion. I just tried the GVST's GComp1&2 plugs. These plug ins are very close to what I had in mind but I'm not sure how precise the visualization is and the quality of compression is not all that great. I think it is phenomenal that somebody is offering such useful plugins for free and I have the utmost respect for their developer but I was hoping for a much smoother sound and more advanced/precise waveform visualization of before and after…Anyhow, I'm very glad that somebody already thought about implementing these features and it is probably not too long before we will see something like this hitting the market. I wouldn't mind to pay good money for a plug like this.
