So I decided to give Sonar a chance and got Sonar 6 Studio Edition. I am not saying its bad or is bug ridden, it just did not "feel" right to me.

Now what do I do with it? It seem you can sell it but the new user gets no support or upgrades but others say you can't sell it.

Have you registered it yet?

If not then there should be no problems selling it.

Yes it is registered. I am starting to think it would make a coaster ;)

Jeez...that's awful! Are you sure you don't need to spend more time with it? I despised Nuendo for the first year or so, now it and Cubase are my main men. You can pretty much adjust to any workflow - just look at how popular Pro Tools is! ;)

You could try it for a bit longer to see if you get used to it. It took me a while but I just kept at it and now everythings cool. What do/did you use before buying Sonar?

I was using Cubase before Sonar and so that what I went back to. For whatever reason it just makes more sense to me. Not that much does make sense to me :)

I use this test to see if I can live with a new software:

Complete an entire project with it--learn the software along the way. It might feel slow, but you're basically trying to decide if you can learn it and get familiar with it.

If after you've complete an entire project with it and still hate it, then you know it's time to drop the whole thing.

wow. bit of a dilemma there...

I've tussled with some kvr regulars about what is and isn't a good DAW/sequencer/host... but I do actually believe that the majority of the "big" products are all good apps, and whether or not a particular person will like them is mainly up to whether the person's orientation and needs (multitrack, MIDI, loops, samples, live) are aligned with the app.

So, I would suggest that if your initial impulse to get Sonar was because the featureset seemed to match your concept of what you wanted, then you should probably persevere with it.

At this point, unless Cakewalk takes pity on you, you're going to take a loss when selling it, so you might as well make the best of it.
I have a cunning plan ...

There might be crossgrade options available to you. Cubase does indeed operate completely different to Sonar, I simply can not get used to Sonar's workflow.

Maybe try crossgrade to Cubase 4 Studio ?

The VST effects included with Sonar should work in Cubase also so you can use those. Do you get Perfect Space & the Kjaerhus strip with the Studio version ?

Good Luck

Huh............I've actually been thinking about getting the Studio Edition. Not that my other hosts are lacking, just thought I might try something different. What is it about Sonar 6 you don't like? I might consider buying it from you if the legality of the license transfer is established.

I dont have issue selling it as a loss, its the terms under which I have to sell it, if I even can. I sent an email to cakewalk to find out the exact details.

The Studio Edition does not come with any of the really cool VSTs, so no reason to keep it for that plus I have tons of VSTs I like already.

The main reason I went with Sonar was for its 64-bit support. Well, I had lots of issues with getting the 64 bit stuff working with any stability that I just gave up on it.

:( it's such a shame there are no useful VST plugs to use there. In all honesty, after using Cubase for all this time, there is no way I could move to Sonar knowing what I'd be missing. People say the same thing about moving from Sonar to Cubase.

Did you try the demo first before buying it ? The demo ruled out Sonar for me without any cost.

Good luck
