----I'm gonna risk sticking my foot in my mouth here, but I would've thought more payware devs would've wanted to support this kind of thing, if only because it might keep people from using warez when there are plenty of freebees to keep them busy until they need to move up to payware ya know. I guess they might see it as "competetion", but it's a whole different level still. Someday freeware may truly be as good as payware in every way, but right now, since that rarely happens, and freeware is good for everyone, regardless of what the payware devs may think/feel.
----If I really wanted to dig a hole for myself, I'd mention the correlation between p2p song downloading (the non-paying-for kind), versus how much $ the record companies are still making, (more each year still, from any journalistic media account), because it only really serves as more advertising. I see a fairly direct correlation with audio/video freeware and payware, if people can get started for free, they may stick around long enough to get really into it, and start buying programs they would've either never used, or just stolen and not known what to do with really. Freeware gets people started legally, and for that, it's good for everyone, well, the freeware devs don't always benefit I guess, but some of them become underground legends for providing it eh 8)
----I think the people involved (in the whole K-v-R Dev Challenge) get the idea, and maybe next year even more will get on board after seeing how great it has been, and will be remembered as :)

Hi,

I'll donate a choice of one piece of Camel Audio software to 3 winners. (Winners can choose either Cameleon 5000, CamelPhat, CamelSpace, Cameleon soundbanks, or Biolabs Absynth sounds).
I'm gonna risk sticking my foot in my mouth here, but I would've thought more payware devs would've wanted to support this kind of thing, if only because it might keep people from using warez when there are plenty of freebees to keep them busy until they need to move up to payware ya know. Speaking personally, with regard to donating software, I didn't know that people were looking for prizes for this - so I wouldn't assume that the other devs wouldn't want to contribute - its probably just that they don't know about it. I imagine that if someone asked devs on this forum, quite a few them of them would be up for it. (I don't generally read the DC forum - its interesting, but I'm just really busy with other stuff. I just happened to read one of the threads and noticed that software was also a prize, and then found this thread). With regard to cash, I donated $60 to the fund soon after the competition started. I hope I don't come over as overly defensive, I took absolutely no offense at your post - I just thought I'd set the record straight :)

I personally don't see freeware as a threat - I think there's room for everyone  I guess it does raise the bar in terms of what you can charge for, but that just makes me want to create stuff that is even cooler :D

----Right on Ben, glad to hear you feel that way, and double-cool that you are contributing to the prizes. I didn't mean to really rip on payware devs, I just thought they'd be looking closer at all the hub-bub about this Dev Challenge. And I guess I just meant that donating software prizes would be maybe easier/cheaper in a way, (since it's no secret that 9 out of 10 at least, of the devs on K-v-R ain't millionaires ha-ha). Anyways, a bump for some great last minute (almost literally ha-ha) prizes. I don't even have an entry in the challenge and I'm totally psyched about the extra prizes anyways. :)
