Sort of like with FL: Sample the audio, hit "auto slice", assign to pads and sequence. The difference is my "sample audio" involves no external hardware or cables (only my always-active audio interface), my slice can be manually modified with click-drag rather than manual numeric input, and my assign to pads involves 4-seconds of drag-and-drop for an 8-sample kitstale bread wrote:you're wrong my friend. you must be using your grandfathers mpc, it is faster on an mpc to press record, sample the audio, then presss slice/assign to pads and then sequence.
The #1 feature hiphopers look for in a host is....

quote"Unless I missed something huge, you proposed that, somehow, it is easier and faster to assemble a drumkit and compose a beat in an MPC on that little LED screen with a knob and a couple buttons than it is in a DAW host. end Quote
yeah you totaly missed something, this wasnt'about assembling a kit and composing beats at all. my statement was about the fact that there are less steps to sample slice map and sequence in the mpc than software.
there is no arming of tracks, no loading of other instruments to drop samples into, no setting up edison and dragging samples from edison over to the stepsequencer, or the fpc and theres none of the things that you have to do with a mouse.

Right. So my explanation of 4 steps to record live percussion, auto-slice, and drag-and-drop to build a kit is something YOU missed.
BTW, you don't have to load up any kits to drag samples to FL's step sequencer, it will auto-generate sampler channels. And for every thing you "have to do with a mouse", I suppose it must be more convenient to do it with a rotary encoder and a few buttons?
Nope, not at all. Only plugging your instrument in to your FPC, making any manual adjustments in that terrible little LED screen, no ability to pre-process the incoming audio with a VST (compressor, EQ), no way to quick-send Multiple outs to 16 mixer tracks, etc.stale bread wrote:there is no arming of tracks, no loading of other instruments to drop samples into, no setting up edison and dragging samples from edison over to the stepsequencer, or the fpc and theres none of the things that you have to do with a mouse.

the mpc has multiple outs and 2fx processors plus master fx and contrary to your belief has the ability to process incomming audio.
see you're taking this debate into territory not remotely pointient. the mpc is not my favorite piece of music equiptment. Ableton Live is so see this isn't an attack on your beloved Fl which I use also, as a matter of fact edison is what i wish was in live but now i'm digressing with you.

Yes. But only by routing your audio via patch through hardware or (if you were to do what I said) through your computer, through a VST, and back out to the MPC. Faster?stale bread wrote:the mpc has multiple outs and 2fx processors plus master fx and contrary to your belief has the ability to process incomming audio.
You said MPC was faster. I said that it was not. you then for some reason changed the subject to having to arm mixer tracks; I made the point that if you really want to pretend that clicking the "record" button in Edison should somehow constitute a serious limitation, you have to consider the serious limitations of working in a host which has to accept audio in from a TRS. You decided to attack the time it supposedly took to open an instance of FPC (about 2 seconds), I was attacking the time it would take YOU to do something simple like compress or equalize your input or output.

i didn't change anything tox, my point has been the same from the get go, you tried to change what the topic was and i corrected you.
what are you talking about routing through your computer and back out to the mpc. i can plug any source up to the mpc imputs and process the audio on imput, I don't know what you're talking about. lets go back to the beginning.
the mpc can sample a piece of audio off of a record, slice that audio, and map those slices to the mpc pads, and sequence that audio faster than software.
the mpc slices and maps automaticly, the software doesn't. the fruity slicer does, but you can't record into fruity loops as fast as you can into the mpc, why you think you can I don't know but i think you should try the mpc (i have the mpc 1000) first.

btw, i'm not attacking anything, your whole perception of this discussion is upside down, I responded to this comment by kritikon and nothing else.
kritikon wrote:
It seems like MPCs have turned into hiphop bling. I'm surprised they don't wear them on big gold and diamond encrusted chains around their necks yet. At least it'd hide their dicks when their pants fall down. "
that's all

This is just plain untrue.stale bread wrote:the mpc can sample a piece of audio off of a record, slice that audio, and map those slices to the mpc pads, and sequence that audio faster than software.
I don't understand why you keep going back to the Fruity slicer. You can record streaming audio in edison with a single click, and then auto-slice with another single click. You can drag those samples to the step sequencer in less than 5 seconds. for 15 seconds of drums you're sequencing in 45 seconds, tops. There is no "mapping", there is no audio connection, and there certainly aren't any of the obvious workflow limitations that go hand in hand with sequencing in a tiny little piece of hardwarestale bread wrote:the mpc slices and maps automaticly, the software doesn't. the fruity slicer does, but you can't record into fruity loops as fast as you can into the mpc, why you think you can I don't know but i think you should try the mpc (i have the mpc 1000) first.

ah now that's one thing i didn't know about edison (recording), i'll have to try it out
and thats gonna have me spending alot more time in fl, but just to be fair i think you missunderstood alot about what the mpc can do as well. and at anyrate it's still way faster in the mpc than in ableton Live which is what kritikon uses.

so can you instantly load the samples into the fpc, or do you have to drag 'em over

Just messing around to see how slow PC workflow is, I sampled, exported, imported, sliced, and sequenced in about 2 minutes.stale bread wrote:you're wrong my friend. you must be using your grandfathers mpc, it is faster on an mpc to press record, sample the audio, then presss slice/assign to pads and then sequence. pre existing samples is not even what the discussion is about AGAIN, but I think my unbelievably sucky host of choice 'ableton Live' might beat the mp in that regard but i'll have to check/count steps
This easily could have been done faster too(I had a couple miscues in there).
I used Tracktion, and Shortcircuit for this by the way, and all slicing was done manualy.
8 slices total.

and does edison give you any meters for the incoming audio, ive never used edison for recording only editing.
