Can someone please explain this?

Ok so I recently bought a Mac Pro and Cubase 4 Studio. I want to use Rapture by Cakewalk, but Cubase doesn't support Audio Units. I have been looking around searching for ways to use AU's with Cubase and I have only found this:

I can't find a lot of information on this at all. I have seen a screen shot of it, but I really dont understand it. Would this let me use a AU as a VST in Cubase? Can someone explain this to me? Has anyone used it before, or know of someone that has?

I would say get Logic Pro. - I don't really get why you'd get a new Mac, and a new version of Cubase. - If you wanted Cubase, a PC would have been cheeper. If you wanted to use Audio Units on a Mac, Logic would have been better.

That's just my opinion of course.

I think Audio Units work in Garageband don't they? - That would have come free with your Mac, so you could always use that.

Logic is WAY to much money. I bought Cubase 4 Studio for $200 bucks with my student discount, and the Mac Pro I got a substantial discount through someone (I mean thousands off the final bill). So that's my reasoning behind buying what I did. As for Logic Pro, I can't get a discount on it, so it's out of the question. I would like to use Rapture, but I guess it's not needed, I can look around for something else. That's the only plug-in I kind of want thats a AU so I'm not worried about it at all. I was just looking for a way to use it in Cubase, if you can't, you can't.

I've never used OSX so i might be way off on some points.
There is an AUHost that comes with OSX. I believe you have to install some developer kit to get it.
Jack is available for OSX. Can't one combine these two in some cool way ?

$200 is a great price for Cubase 4! Wow. I envy the students! The word from above is that there are no plans at all to implement AU in Cubase. You can't use the VST Rapture on the Mac? Is it PC only?

It does indeed look like there is a VSTi OSX version of the Rapture.

yeah the discounts from Apple are crap. Steinberg is all about the students because they want you to learn on their software, and keep using it when you graduate. I guess on paper the logic works, but it can go the other way.


You can get Rapture VSTi for a Mac, but not an Intel Mac, you need to use the AU update to use it on the new computers. Which really pisses me off, why have a RTAS, VSTi, DX for G5, and then only make a AU for the intel based machines??? Retarted much?? I vote yes!

Unfortunatly that converts the wrong way. VST to AU.
What he wants is a AU to VST converter which i don't believe exists.
