Thanks for looking into it, and as per your list, I'm doing everything correctly, but it still doesn't work - not if I use it as a send or insert, midi learn doesn't link to any controller and even if I move the filter sliders with my mouse, Cubasis doesn't create a midi part after recording.

I assure you that it does work with any other plug I choose to use...

Very strange. It sounds like your MIDI setup. Why does it work on my system and not on yours? I am using an older version of Cubasis as well ( version4)Can you tell us what MIDI controllers you are using?..and perhaps we should move this to the CamelAudio forum as well..as it sounds like a support issue then a general discussion on effect plugs.

I just today found this very nice sounding filter not listed at KVR:

Warm and clean sounding Resonance Filter Modul:

24 dB lowpass filter
12 dB bandpass/highpass filter
MIDI learn (resonance, cutoff)
parameter smoothing

I like GVST GHi and GLow. Simple free plugins that do exactly what they should. Cut Hi, Lo and Res.

okay the plot thickens...

if I start a new project in Cubasis, and repeat the process of trying to capture some automation on Camelphat, I am able to create a midi part, but playback does nothing, i.e. no sliders move and the sound is not affected in any way. Midi learn still doesn't work (and never has for that matter).

I realise I am using a comparatively 'crappy' host to most, but this issue aside it works just fine for me so I see no need to spend money on getting a 'better' one...

I just tried the new G-Flux plug and that works fine.

I'm using Cubasis 5.0.0.9 BTW and an Evolution MK-249C midi controller/keyboard.

ah f**k it, I give up, it could be my host. If I try and use CP as a send rather than an insert on a vst plug (rather than an audio clip), it has no audible effect - I'm guessing that's not normal...

I have got a copy of Cubase SE but I could never record midi with it (which I think is down to me having a USB soundcard)... I don't want to upgrade to a newer version of SE if this problem hasn't been addressed - anyone?

I realise by now that I'm talking to myself but I'm really frustrated

Might be a bit much for what you want tho. Alternatively we produce a freeware plugin called Delta Filter which is also available at the above link as part of the Delta Series. Mac and PC, VST format...

the Delta Series cause Cubasis to hang on start up, but G Flux doesn't.

Exponent plugins are fine.
KarmaFX filter is both HP and LP in the same time, too.
Maybe Tone2 BiFilter ?
Or Luxonix LFX1310 ? It has 3 efx you can run in serial with midi learn...

Im amazed that cubasis lets GFlux work! Does cubasis even support 2.3 version plugins???
