Anyone using this?

http://www.infomus.dist.unige.it/eywindex.html

I've managed to get some live webcam processing patches made (great fun) but now I want to combine them with the audio tools so I can run a synth/make sounds using gestures into the webcam but I'm stuck. I can insert midi and ASIO objects but I can't work out how to load a VSTi (it does support them) - I have registered eXT as an Eyesweb module but can't find it in the objects browser and the manual is useless. Also how do you convert gestures into midi objects? I'm seriously interested in using this as a therapeutic tool.

I've just realised as well that it's not in the host database - it should be - how does it get put there?

Fascinating.

I'd have never expected you were into Square Dancing..

well I use it at work for video processing in the context of performing arts,
and I've worked with the developpers. Not very VST centric though.
But it has VST, ASIO, FreeFrame, and soon FEAPI, They've done an amazing work on this software.

Cool - I tried contacting them last year to discuss some research but they didn't get back to me.

So if you know it well can you answer my questions - how do I insert a VSTi and can I convert gestures to midi with it? (I really want to hook it up to a VSTi or my Nord G2 and use this with my own patients)

Isn't there a pre-written module{s} for that?

Yes I have most of those modules - it's knowing how to put them together that's the problem (and how to find my VST's to insert)

WOW

Thanks for the link. My friend is an acrobatic performing artist (fire, juggling, mime etc) and I've done some pieces for him to support the performance... something like this eyesthingy would make it .... well incredibly interactive, I could be behind the deck shaping the sounds but his body movements would play the instruments :-o :o

Post

It would if you could figure it out - if you do let me know ;)

:hihi: guess I have try

It dawned to me that possibly pd could do something similar. I've seen some awesome live visuals done in realtime with it, I'm sure the gurus have utilized cameras as well. I saw this friend and he was really enthusiastic, so thanks for the idea in any case!

Post

I'm fairly sure it could but PD is even more complicated. I certainly know that MAX/MSP and Jitter can.

However I think EyesWeb seems to have been especially designed for movement, motion and emotion analysis and a lot of research has gone into that side of it so it's algorithms are probably more powerful for this sort of dance/movement/sound/visuals work.

eyesweb is indeed very cool! i must say, for multimedia projects, this is more adventurous:
