yep, i been gone. had to come post...
nice results. not to surprizing. the creme do rise! triplechazz had to win... and i was pullin for some others. tbh, the past and recent and future success of urs actually threatened to affect my vote... it may have, actually. just like the real world!
but with urs and mdsp making it into the top, it sort of works out...
im surprised at the bitterness from the devs though... seems like people dont realize how *different* everyones way of making music and using plugins is. like, lunchbox- genious, everyone loves it. but, its not a plugin, and making drumloops like that just doesnt fit into my thang. so, i didnt vote it high. cubix suffered the same fate. quality counts for sure, but so does personal taste... just like the real world. both of those are incredibly well done, some of the best in the competition, i just dont find em all that useful. while, weird shit... like pondular, i love. and i realize there are at least as many others who feel the opposite way.
- there was mention of seperating generators\effects. i think thats a good idea, assuming there would be at least as many entries next time. the fx get forgotten... and there are some great effects in this group that had no chance to win...
- pondular deserves a 'genious' award. i voted for it just in the hope that some money could get thown at that thing. its amazing, and could be taken *SO* far! it could really be revolutionary. if youre not careful some big name dev is gonna steal that shit and make a fancy pants monster plugin out of it... i would.
- SANE fm shoulda scored higher...imo, of course.
- is that pushtec eq really that good? damn! it scored high! i will have to give that some good investigation. it sounded good to me, but not as insanely good as everyone else seems to thing.
well, con-fukkin-grats to all!!
i hope you guys had fun with it, i know me and all the rest of the knob twiddlers had a blast!
sorry for the monster post. i even edited it...
peace.
(another)edit---- oh yea, and i was pretty shocked at how few people voted, considering the size of the community here...
the devs should tell how many DLs they had during this period.

Just to clear up any possible confusion: I'm not bitter in the least bit. The whole DC was a fun and valuable experience to me and ending in the top-4 is actually something I'm really happy with. (Especially considering, like you point out as well, that Lunchbox was a fun toy, and was not meant as a serious bit of studio technology!)...
Now THAT I was quite disappointed with, to be honest (the number of votes). I don't have download statistics because everything was hosted here on KVR - but I have a feeling that significantly more people downloaded than voted. But hey.. that's the state of the world/internet today.(another)edit---- oh yea, and i was pretty shocked at how few people voted, considering the size of the community here...

The voting procedure is something that definitely needs rethinking. Obviously it was too complicated for most people to bother with... I think it could me made a LOT simpler if you could simply rate each entry individually, sectionz.com style.
Splitting the contest into categories is a fantastic idea. 'FX' and 'synths' would suffice unless there were considerably more entries... Perhaps a 'standalone' category too?
Lunchbox is the true star of this compo in my humble opinion. That and Drum Mic Positioner were the only compo entries that I have used regularly.

The vote count was most definately low compared to downloads.
When I advertised the updated version of my Mini-Vyn, I got over 1000 downloads within the three days left of the comp. Not even that many people voted.
So yeah, I could care now, but there's some stats for ya.

I think there should be two (or possibly more) parameters for voting next year (if there is a next year)-highkoo wrote: im surprised at the bitterness from the devs though... seems like people dont realize how *different* everyones way of making music and using plugins is. like, lunchbox- genious, everyone loves it. but, its not a plugin, and making drumloops like that just doesnt fit into my thang. so, i didnt vote it high. cubix suffered the same fate. quality counts for sure, but so does personal taste... just like the real world. both of those are incredibly well done, some of the best in the competition, i just dont find em all that useful. while, weird shit... like pondular, i love. and i realize there are at least as many others who feel the opposite way.
Coolness and
Usefulness.
Because by no way were any of those top three cool/innovative/etc/etc/etc. Lunchbox rules the roost in the coolness stakes.
Just my 10 cents.

mmm... yep, those stats are a shame.
although, at least there *were* that many downloads. thats cool. people checked out your work, eventhough they dont care that you get anything in return. whatever. people are lazy. and theyre usually stupider than they are lazy... they are tough to deal with sometimes....
oh, unrelated- does anyone else think that the giant mistake with 'drum mike modeller' was the name? i wrote it off completely until i had a day to percolate on it and realized how useful it could be... nice one.
and i wasnt pointin fingers with the bitter comment. just seems that there are rumblings among the entrants, and thats too bad. i guess its bound to happen, but it just seemed weird as i think a lot of the voters were more inderstanding of how the votes fell in the end.
and imo, the *overall* level of ingenuity and quality was pretty impressive, although some disagree. and, there was a good pile of entries too. in all, i think this thing was the bees knees.
pimp, pimp, hooray!
and the voting, see i was kind of like 'woah...' when i saw the page, but it made me *more* attentive, cuz i was surprised at the level of effort being put in to the whole thing. i was like 'damn, they are thowin down!'. but i guess for some people it goes back to that whole lazy/stupid thing...
hey in the end, the opinion of those lazy stupid people isnt really worth a whole lot anyway. i dont really wanna hear the vote of the guy who votes down something cuz there 'arent enough presets', or the 'gui is ugly'.
but, actually.... i wouldnt mid hearing the opinions of a couple thousand of those kinda guys at once. if they could all vote. it would be worth something on a bigger scale.
jeezuz im off on a tangent now, hope you get what i mean.
peace!

sigh.... matryx.
sq4, gracious as always, is perfectly pleased with 19.
i still can't believe it personally. it was the most advanced and capable entry...
what was it, i wonder? it took about an hour for me to figure it all out, but it can do thing with audio file sequencing that i am hard pressed to find in ANY other host/sequencer...
maybe an hour is too long for people to spend nowadays. i don't know. it is one of those things that can be so rewarding for just a little bit more effort.
but that's just the way the cookie crumbles, i suppose.

Just would like to thank all the devs who participated and produced some varied and excellent results. I had my eye on this from the beginning but then went traveling for a few months and lost track of things. It's overwhelming the talent and generosity out there. Brings a tear to the eye.
Going to have a lot of fun now with these pieces of art.
Thank you again.

was an amazing piece,
however, take it from someone who has mastered many sequencers,
Simpilify, put the finger on the trigger and the power on the side or underneath.
It was very good though, I thought the FL people had did it.
