thanks guys
feel free to bother me anytime in the future if you have feature requests or questions
PS spacedad, I liked your superubbish a lot too - that GUI and those presets : masterful. I love plug UIs that have a slightly subversive attitude too them. Wish I could be as creative as you in my designs

hey thanks for this plugin... I made a thread in instruments section but no one replied. I can play with it fine, I use it with Synth1. How do I RECORD the midi data sent by tonespace in FL?

I am no FL expert, but I believe the only way to do it is via a MIDI loopback adapter, such as MIDI Yoke.ggoyal2 wrote:How do I RECORD the midi data sent by tonespace in FL?
There are two ways of doing this:
1) hosting tonespace within FL
2) hosting tonespace in another standalone host, such as the donationware SAVIHost
I like the second method best, since it doesn't require you to change settings between recording/playback and it allows you to record into the pianoroll for any instrument
steps for method 1)
-install MIDI Yoke (or another similar loopback adapter)
-set up ts for FL following the setup instructions in the ts manual
-in Options/Midi Settings/Midi/Output, assign output device "MIDI Yoke NT 1:" to port 1
-before recording:
--in Fl, menu Options/Midi Settings/Midi/Input check "Enable" for input device "MIDI Yoke NT 1:"
--in ts set "ON INPUT" to "Highlight notes"
--start recording the usual way in FL (hit record button, then play button)
--play in the ts window, using the mouse
--in FL your tonespace pianoroll should now record the played chords
-before playback:
--in FL, menu Options/Midi Settings/Midi/Input uncheck "Enable" for input device "MIDI Yoke NT 1:"
--in ts set "ON INPUT" to "Passthrough"
steps for method 2)
-install MIDI Yoke (or another similar loopback adapter)
-set up ts for SAVIHost following the setup instructions in the ts manual
-in SAVIHOST, menu Devices/Midi..., set the Output port to "MIDI Yoke NT 1:"
-in SAVIHOST, menu Devices/Wave..., set both the Input and Output to "No Wave". Keep however Buffer set to 704 samples. You might have to restart SAVIHost after this.
-in Fl, menu Options/Midi Settings/Midi/Input check "Enable" for input device "MIDI Yoke NT 1:"
-in FL, add your VST instrument and click on it in the step sequencer. Then start recording the usual way in FL (hit record button, then play button)
-switch to SAVIHost and play in the ts window, using the mouse
-in FL your active instrument's pianoroll should now record the played chords
note that both methods actually make FL think that tonespace output is coming from an external MIDI keyboard. The second method will work for any host that has problems hosting tonespace, but which is capable of recording midi from external keyboards.

sorry i don't have fl.in eXT i had to put it outside the sequencer and route the midi back in.
if that helps.

ggoyal2, I'm not a FL user, not even own it, but from my experience with midi plugins testing in its demo version you can try to load tonespace as a usual instrument.
After loading, select "Show midi out port" in its menu and set the two digit LCD number top right of the interface to a channel of your choice.
Then load another instrument (VSTI etc.) on a different track and select here "Show midi in port" and set its two digit control to the same channel as you did for tonespace.
From now on you should hear the midi output from tonespace triggering the second instrument and - most likely - you're now also able to record on this track.
