Battery 3 or Stylus RMX?

There all really different!

Battery is a good all-around drum sampler...that's its main thing.

Jamstix is a very cool improv-oriented module for live drums

RMX is a massive tool for loops, remixing, and creating your own grooves. It has many unique features like Chaos Designer and Edit Groups which are not comparable on any other product. It's also extremely musically versatile because of all the expansion options and being able to use your own audio via REX files.

from a biased source...;-)

You'll love both actually....with Battery being closer to REDRUM and Stylus RMX being a bit more like Dr. REX (but on mind-altering chemicals) :-)

Unless Ralph has changed his policy lately, I seem to remember that he's promised JS owners at least a 60% discount on JS2, not a free upgrade. That is still a killer deal, IMHO, and I plan to jump right on it when JS2 comes out. :)

...I just rechecked it, and the JS2 thread is here: http://rayzoon.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/vi ... php?t=1494

EXT may be the one that you're thinking about, as EXT owners are promised a free upgrade to EXT2.

I also am contemplating Battery 3, especially since I can get it for $100 at academic discount. But, frankly, I'm not sure what sounds I might need besides the JamStix and DK+ packs I already have.

On the other hand, you can't have too many VSTs, especially drum-oriented ones..... :D

I use Stylus RMX and Jamstix all the time. They work great together - especially if you want to add instant and random fills and beats (Jamstix) to your groove (Stylus RMX) - really great stuff.

Jamstix is worth every penny - as is Stylus RMX. Two radically different programs.

I have Battery2 and Battery3 (Komplete 4) is on it's way. I really have not even tried it yet because Stylus RMX and Jamstix have been so PERFECT in what I do.

I guess your decision should be based on the type of music you create for yourself or need to create for your clients - and, essentially, how forgiving you are in your craft. Personally, I don't really give a crap if a cymbal is on beat 3 or 4 - as long as it sounds good to my ears I am fine. More importantly, as long as the client is happy, even better.

Besides, you can use your DAW to create your drum patterns (most come with a drum sequencer of some kind anyway) and just point to Stylus RMX (or Jamstix) to fire the one shot samples.

And, if you buy JS you'll get JS 2 free when it comes out next year.
It's true, as I said.

And while Jamstix can be a very live /impro oriented tool, it's a great drum arranger as well, even a fine sound module.
It's so flexible, everybody seems to have a slightly different way of using it.
I myself use it mainly to generate and arrange "real sounding" drumtracks, either using the built-in sounds & the expansions or using JS to trigger DFHS, C&V, EzDrummer or (rarely) Battery.

Whoah! Cool! I had not seen this.

I think the only response any sane VST-addicted person could have is to go ahead and buy JamStix Right Now! It's worth every penny as is, and JS2 will only be better.

If it hasn't already been done, with me missing it, and I can't find anything on a quick search, this deal should be posted, presumably by Ralph, in Marketplace.

Thanks, susiwong!

You're welcome, GreyLion.
Normally Ralph updates forum threads when there are news, but atm he seems to be busy with JS2 30 hrs a day, not that I'd complain !
Have a nice weekend,

Battery is a drum sampler, not a drum machine or groove machine.
I think Battery is great, but you need to be able to build your own rhythms to use it.

If you hate to "program" patterns, stay away from Battery. Stylus RMX on the other hand has lots of cool "loops" that you can play around with, but less flexibility.

I would recommend BFD if you're looking for real drum sounds (they do have some expansion packs...but tends to be a little more pricy).

If you have a mac, I'd also recommend picking up iDrum. A simple yet versatile little drum "machine".

The way I'm approaching sounds now is to feed drum loops into Live and play around with it. Yes, I'm trying to build as BIG a drum loop library as possible. Might worth a look into given the price of samples have been going down lately. And you can find Multi-format sample libraries out there easily. REX/Acidized Wave/AIFF, ect,. And on top of that, you can use these samples inside Battery or RMX! :)

So...go get a copy of LIVE if you're serious about your sounds...yeah, I'm unconventional...but I'm sure others have tried it as well...or am I the only one? :)

Battery's main purpose is a drum sampler. You can import wavs into it, but you have to sequence using a external program.

Stylus RMX is more of a loops library, i guess, which also happens to have some drum kits.

Guru is my pick, as it not only has an extensive library of drum kits and sounds, it is also a drum sampler and an excellent sequencer (just for rhtyhms). If your main intent is to create your own beats, i'd suggest guru. Additionally, guru's content is totally unlocked, which means you can use it in your other samplers, or in your host program.

Not exactly :-)

That really doesn't tell the whole story. After all, a LOT of people use Stylus RMX exclusively with their own loops, because of the unique ways that you can manipulate and interact with the loops.
