Buying a Mellotron sample set, options?

I've been looking around for Mellotron sample sets lately and I've found some interesting stuff at esoundz. I have a couple of questions:

Is Mello Zone any good (it's pretty cheap at the mo) or is Squids Tron Collection V1 THE sample set to get? If the latter (which I suspect), then I wonder if I should just get it at the current price of $165 or be patient. I've read that a group buy for Squids Trons V2 is coming up. Will there maybe be an even more attractive deal then for anyone interested in buying V1 and V2 together?

You might want to have a look at Newtron Bomb from Hollowsun:

I can highly recommend Squids Tron Collection v1 - and i'm sure there will be a good deal for you to pick up both...whenever the time comes that Squids decides to release V2.

As far as I've heard, M-Tron is one of the best 'libraries' of Mellotron sounds out there. I don't know anything about Mello Zone, but I almost bought Squids Tron Colletion V1 a long time ago when it was only available via by a group buy.

Yoss, you know we love you man but in our own forum? Haha.

Nah, don't get Hollow Sun. Get Squids Tron! Yeah!!!! It's better. :D Hollow Sun is too hollow. Not enough filling inside and way too much sun IMHO.

We brought it back by high demand. It's one of our best sellers actually. Go figure. More tron fans than we thought. Mello Zone is okay. Good deal at least. It isn't as comprehensive. M-Tron is really good and fun to look at! But, actually it was faithful to the original which means zero programmability and I happen to like what you can do inside SampleTank with tron sounds... the same things people did with REAL trons just with external effects and stuff. For instance you have a built in Spring Reverb, delays, phasers (you can even layer the tron violins with an RMI in organ mode for The Lamb sound or easily layer any tron sound with another for Rick Wakeman Topographic strings or other such combination tron sounds). But, Squids Tron adds in a lot of quirky sounds that aren't available anywhere else such as certain ones from Tom Waits and Neil Finn's Chamberlins, the Optigan and trons I sampled for Smashing Pumpkins and other esoteric things... oh yeah like the Tube Ampex tape tron recordings I did with Patrick Warren (he actually bought the 3 track machine from Harry Chamberlin's son... and he sold it which is a bummer because I would have/should have bought it but at least I got these transfers which sound warm and cool).

Bottom line is, in my opinion, if you like Trons then get Squids Tron! http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=220

Even if you have M-Tron or some of the other tron libraries. This one is still different enough to add to the collection.... and there's also Squids Tron Vol. 2 coming as well. Tron city!

Oh, dear - I've done it again. :dog:

Sorry, Squids. I'm basically just cruising the Latest Posts and didn't even think about what forum I was in. As I've put my foot in it in exactly the same way in another forum I really should know better. :?

I'd like to say it won't happen again but then I did last time too.

Again, apologies. Carry on.

Ah, it's no problem. Just funny when I read it! I am like "geeee thanks a lot!" haha. It's like walking into Guitar Center and saying "Sam Ashe has it go there!". lol But, yeah I figured. No biggie.

Man, you're a very good combination of musician, sound engineer and salesman Squids! :hihi: I'm very tempted now cause I'm sure (and I hear) the V1 collection is as good as it sounds on your description! Will you be making a good deal V1+V2 when V2 gets released you think? Could be convenient, if nothing else, to buy them and get them shipped together.

Post

Not sure if we'll do a deal together but the second one will be done in a group buy. All who join that have the possibility to make it cheaper. That's always fun!

Ok, thanks for the info Squids!
