I am looking for a free plug that will work in real time and allow me to view the overall balance of my mix's frequency range. Something like 'Bars and Waves' visualizations that comes with Windows media player.

Try our Visualizer analysis plugin.
visualizer is capable of a lot more than this, but once the demo period expires, the basic Spectrum Analysis and level metering views are still available, which seems to be exactly what you are looking for.
